Overwatch: Fan Favorite Ships Are Sinking After Blizzard Reveals More Family Connections

Blizzard drops more hints regarding family relationships that seemingly debunk fan favorite relationships. However, this is not the first time the studio has decided to pair up characters from the game.

Pharah's True Father in Overwatch

According to PVP Live, the studio just confirmed a long-standing question in the game's lore. Lead writer Michael Chu talked about the interpersonal relationships between some of the characters in the game during a recent interview. There, he stated that Reinhardt is not Pharah's dad in spite of the theories surrounding his and Ana's relationship.

This might come as a surprise to some followers as Reinhardt and Ana have a solid fan base stemming from the characters' interactions in-game. Before commencing battle, sometimes the two would compliment or speak fondly of each other hinting at something more between them. In spite of this, Chu claimed that there are some hints (possibly in the game) that point to Pharah's real father.

Blizzard Sinks More Popular Ships

It is worth noting that this is the first time that Blizzard has sunk iconic ships in the game. Similarly, Polygon reports that while Tracer may have come out as gay in the December comic, she still shows no signs of romantic interest towards her nemesis, Widowmaker. Instead, the British agent has a different girlfriend who is not in the game.

On the other hand, the same comic shows Pharah seemingly spending a romantic Christmas dinner with another man. This was a major blow to those other fans who supported the Pharah and Mercy relationship but now it seems like the angelic medic has her eyes on a different hero. With this in mind, there might actually be something more between Genji and Mercy as they supposedly share a Valentine's Day conversation and might even be writing to each other from across the world.

Nonetheless, ships will always be a thing as long as fans continue to support it. Just because Blizzard confirms other relationships, that does not take away the followers' one true pairing (OTP). For now, fans will have to wait for further news and information regarding official Overwatch lore.
