Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom Launching With 16MP Camera: Are Lumia 928, iPhone 5S And Sony Honami Worried?

As Nokia gears up to launch a trio of smartphones this month, including the Lumia 928, it seems Samsung is preparing to keep its rivals on their toes. Reports note that Samsung is on track to launch yet another Galaxy S4 offering and no, we're not talking about the Galaxy S4 Mini.

The device in question is a completely new cameraphone, dubbed Galaxy S4 Zoom (SM-C1010), which will pack in a 16-megapixel primary snapper. The latest rumor comes courtesy of SamMobile, which reveals that the smartphone is expected around June or July this year.

"We just received the first information regarding Samsung's first camera phone, the Galaxy S4 Zoom. The Galaxy S4 Zoom should be Samsung's first camera phone with a 16 megapixel camera," reports SamMobile.

As the name suggests, Samsung may look to deploy optical zoom capabilities in the Galaxy S4 Zoom. The smartphone is rumored to sport a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, 8GB of on-board storage (with the option to expand up to 64GB using a microSD card), a dual-core or quad-core processor, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and A-GPS.

The Galaxy S4 Zoom will be Android-powered and have Samsung's TouchWiz Nature UX interface.

Samsung is expected to announce the phone before summer, likely around June or July. The Galaxy S4 Zoom is expected to retail in white and black.

"Samsung will bring the Galaxy S4 Zoom before the summer and we expect this smartphone around June / July. The Galaxy S4 Zoom codename is SM-C1010 will come in 2 colours black and white," notes SamMobile.

Whether the 16-megapixel camera of the Galaxy S4 Zoom is enough to take on the iPhone 5S, Lumia 928 and Sony's Honami remains to be seen.
