Bethesda Softworks: New Wolfenstein Game Announced (Video)

Fans of classic games should be pretty happy with Bethesda Softworks right now, with the company announcing on Tuesday May 7 its new title, Wolfenstein: The New Order.

The game from Bethesda Softworks is being developed by MachineGames and is scheduled for a quarter four 2013 release. Bethesda Softworks is calling the new Wolfenstein game a dramatic "reimagining of the franchise."

"We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere," Jens Matthies, creative director at MachineGames, said. "As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud."

The Bethesda Softworks game centers around protagonist B. J. Blazkowicz following World War II. In a twist, however, Germany has won the war and Blazkowicz must take on the Nazis. The trailer starts with a drill spinning quickly with a voiceover stating, "All that was gone, they set the world on fire. It wasn't a war anymore, it was a remaking." We then see a number of missiles and other weapons being made against a backdrop of New York and London. The weapons are being assembled for "a new world, an army of steel." A group of metal soldiers approach a man and we hear a voice say, "They are re-writing history, but they forgot about me."

Expect Wolfenstein: The New Order from Bethesda Softworks to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC along with next-generation consoles. Further details will surface starting on Wednesday May 8 through exclusive features with GameSpot.com.
