Teenagers Drive More Carefully After Accident

Teens often experiment in order to experience more of the world. That would include driving a vehicle for the first time. It would also be a learning experience for some, especially those who might have an accident. Newark personal injury lawyers tell us that 650 teens are injured in car accidents every day in the US. Teen driving is more careful after an accident.

It is not surprising that teens would learn from an accident. A study has shown that teens would be more careful in driving after being involved in a serious collision. Teens involved in such an accident would be more likely to drive carefully even after two months after the accident.

The research has studied 250 teens and their driving behaviors. Leading the research is Fearghal O'Brien from the National College of Ireland. He made the study as a postdoctoral fellow at the US National Institutes of Health.

About the study, O'Brien has said that accidents happen to those who later crashed their vehicles. However, the drivers have learned from the experience, and are bound to be more careful in driving even after two months after the accident. The method by which data had been gathered has also been unique for the study.

Unlike in other studies, O'Brien has said that data has been taken before and after the accidents. O'Brien and his colleagues have wondered if accident experience might have a role in change driving behavior. The study has focused on teens and accidents which have been reported to authorities, according to the Association for Psychological Science's site.

The study looked at accidents that might have produced damage to property and injuries. High speed driving has been noted to have been reduced by 34 percent months after the accident among those who were driving at that time, as Science Daily reports. Although accident risks would increase in the coming months, the levels would not be as high as they were before the accident.

O'Brien has noted that drivers who have been involved in accidents learn from what has happened, and are bound to be more careful about driving. Teen driving is more careful after an accident. A study shows why good gamers are good.
