PS4 Games: Watch Dogs To Have Realistic Hacking Thanks To Kaspersky Lab

As if there wasn't already enough reason to be excited for a certain PS4 and Xbox 720 game called Watch Dogs, Ubisoft just added more fuel to the fire. At a San Francisco press event, Watch Dogs senior producer Dominic Guay revealed that Ubisoft was going to some pretty extreme lengths to add realism to the next-gen title's hacking mechanics.

"We're working with Kaspersky Lab, a big security firm," Guay told Joystiq during a San Francisco press event. "They have really hardcore experts there on hacking. We send them some of our designs and we ask them feedback on it, and it's interesting to see what gets back. Sometimes they say, 'Yeah, that's possible, but change that word,' or, 'That's not the way it works.' "

This does not mean that you'll need a tutorial in Objective-C to play the game. Ubisoft isn't interested in teaching you how to code, but it's aiming to avoid making hacking look like something Angelina Jolie does in the 90s with the creepy dude from the Scream films.

"It's not about the challenges of climbing a wall," Guay said. "It's finding the path I want to follow. It's not about the minigame that will let me open the door, it's the fact that I'm making a plan. I'm making a plan of how I'm going to chain hacking, shooting, traveling the city and driving to achieve an objective."

While Kaspersky Lab's involvement is certainly a neat development, it should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Hollywood also often employs scientific consultants to make movies seem more realistic. Michael Bay had one for Armageddon. Enough said.
