Sony Xperia Ion Jelly Bean Update Leaked

The Sony Xperia Ion Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update was supposed to roll out sometime before the end of May, but it looks like that was too long for some folks, because the update just leaked online.

The firmware version is designated build 6.2.B.0.203. It should be noted that the build is only compatible with Sony Xperia Ion handsets that have an unlocked bootloader. Unless you're comfortable with a bit of hacking, we'd advise you to hold out for the official Sony Xperia Ion Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, which should be in the next two weeks.

Previously Xperia Ion users were stuck on Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich and while they're likely happy to at least have Jelly Bean now, it's unclear whether there are any plans to push Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to the phone.

The leaked Android 4.1 Jelly Bean build comes by way of the XDA Developers Forum from a hacker named DooMLoRD. A number of users have commented on the XDA thread, requesting support, but DoomLoRD is "very busy today" and doing his best to keep up with questions.

In addition to the Sony Xperia Ion, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates are also expected this month for a number of other Sony devices, including the Xperia S, Xperia SL and Arco.

If you plan on installing the leaked Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, please let us know how it turns out in the comments. Be warned: if you try installing this on a Sony Xperia Ion with a locked bootloader, there's a chance you'll end up bricking your phone.
