Roku 3 User Interface Now Available For Roku 2 Via Software Update (VIDEO)

Roku announced Tuesday that the new interface featured in its new Roku 3 streaming player can now be downloaded for older models. Owners of second generation Roku boxes can manually update their streaming players and take full advantage of the all new interface.

The redesign lets users easily glide through screens, and look through channels and search thousands of titles instantly. Roku's user interface has been raved about for its intuitive layout, quick reflexes and built-in search tool. The Channel Store and themes for the home screen were redesigned, which also attributed to the positive feedback.

Roku said on its blog that updates were already rolling out to a select amount of users this month for testing. Now the company has announced that the updated are available to the public.

Roku boxes eligible for the software update to version 5.0, build 804X include the following: Roku 2 XS (model 3100), Roku 2 XD (model 3050), Roku 2 HD (model 3000), Roku LT (models 2400 & 2450), Roku HD (model 2500) and the Roku Streaming Stick (models 3400 & 3420).

If you own one of these Roku boxes mentioned and want to update manually, go to Settings > Software update > Check now on your Roku player. You don't have to update it right away if you choose not to. Over the next two weeks, your Roku player will automatically update the software. The updates will roll out to all regions but "Roku Search" is only available in the U.S. for now. First generation models of Roku are unable to support the new update, as new hardware would be required to run the updated features and functions. Check out the new interface below.
