Kyocera Hydro XTRM Specs And Release Date On U.S. Cellular

Kyocera introduced another mid-range device to accompany the Hydro Edge, the Hydro XTRM smartphone. Like the Edge, the Hydro XTRM is waterproof, but unlike its sibling, it's shockproof, dust-proof and runs on U.S. Cellular's 4G LTE network. The Hydro Edge is for the 3G network only.

The Hydro XTRM meets military standards and is built to last so it's a little bulkier than the Hydro Edge. The Military Standard 810G certification makes it shockproof, its rubber exterior makes it capable of withstanding drops.

The Kyocera Hydro XTRM features a 4-inch IPS technology display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels which is fine for viewing photos and reading. The XTRM is part of the Kyocera waterproof Hydro series smartphones and can be submerged in about 3 of water for 30 minutes.  This gives peace of mind when you're visiting those water parks this summer or accidentally drop your phone in the toilet.

As CNET reported, the Kyocera  Hydro  XTRM is shockproof and virtually unbreakable. Good news for the clumsy and accident prone, it can be dropped from a height of 4 feet 26 times with no problems.

The device is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with 1GB RAM. The 4GB ROM is expandable up to 32GB to store apps, music and photos taken with the 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. The Hydro XTRM comes with Android 4.1  Jelly Bean and features Google signature apps such as the Chrome browser, Google Maps with Navigation and YouTube.

The Kyocera Hydro XTRM is available on U.S. Cellular's website and hits its retail stores on May 24 for just $29.99 with an instant rebate.
