Samsung Unveils The Cheapest Galaxy Handset For Rs 4,990 ($90)

Samsung has recently launched its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, which is also currently among the one of the most-expensive handsets around. Now the Korean company has also launched the entry-level and the cheapest Galaxy handset called the Galaxy Star priced at Rs 4,990 ($90 approximately).

Keeping this in view, Samsung launched the Galaxy Star along with the Galaxy Pocket Neo in April this year. The handset is now appearing on online Indian retailer Infibeam priced at Rs 4,990.

The official press release stated "Perfect for the younger generation of mobile users, the GALAXY Star and GALAXY Pocket Neo are designed with a stylish, compact form factor and packed with the latest Android user experience, intuitive navigation and multimedia and content sharing possibilities."

Previously, the Galaxy Y, which is still available on Infibeam for Rs 5,975 ($107 approximately), was the cheapest Galaxy handset on offer.

The Galaxy Star sports a 3-inch 320 x 240 pixels resolution display. A 1GHz Application Processor and 512MB RAM powers the handset. The Galaxy Star is equipped with a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

The Galaxy Star has 4GB of internal storage with the option to expand to a further 32GB using a microSD card. A 1200 mAh battery powers the handset. The smartphone also has FM radio, 2G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3.5mm audio jack, MicroUSB port and also supports Dual-SIM. The cheapest Galaxy handset measures 4.13 x 2.28 x 0.47 inches and weighs 3.55 ounces.

The Galaxy Star has been released in India as the cheapest Galaxy handset, but other Asian markets may get the handset soon.
