Microsoft Surface Laptop: Specs, Price, Release Date And More

On Tuesday, at an event in New York City, Microsoft unveiled its Surface Laptop. It is the firm's new flagship device aimed to take on Apple's MacBook Air and Google's Chromebook. The laptop runs on a lighter version of Windows operating system called the Windows 10 S, which was also announced at the event. The new OS will be the rival of Chrome OS.

Microsoft Surface Laptop: Specs

The new Microsoft Surface Laptop is a premium device that’s more similar to the Chromebook Pixel. It has a 3:2 aspect ratio with a 13.5-inch screen display. It also gets factory color calibrated to help users see accurate tones with its adequate 3.4million pixel resolution. It comes in four color choices: cobalt blue, platinum, burgundy, and gold.

With the thickness of 3.5mm, Microsoft claimed that Surface Laptop is the thinnest touchscreen laptop ever. As a whole, the device measures 14.5mm at the thickest point, with the 10 mm front edge. Also, according to PC Advisor, it is very light with just 1.25 kg. Thanks to the heat pipes that are designed into the bottom part of the body because it enables the slimness of the device.

Around the edges of the Surface Laptop, there is a USB 3 port, a headphone jack, a mini DisplayPort output and an SD card reader. Microsoft claimed that the battery can last up to 14.5 hours. Its operating system is the newest Windows 10 S and with storage options of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB SSD. On the other hand, its processor may come either the seventh-generation Core i5 or Core i7.

According to Trusted Reviews, Microsoft confirmed that the Surface Laptop is now available for pre-order. Its in-store availability and shipping are scheduled for June 15, 2017. The basic model of the laptop will cost $999 in the USA and £979 in the UK, while the most expensive model will cost $2,199 in the USA and £2,149 in the UK.

Microsoft's newest laptop is a device that aims to help the learning in any classroom set-up. "Students are asking for a laptop. They’re asking for a Surface Laptop,” Panos Panay, CVP of Microsoft Surface, said while describing the Surface Laptop. He also claimed that this new education inspired laptop device is "50% faster than the MacBook Air."
