A mod that allows players to play "Elden Ring" at more than 60 fps was uploaded to GitHub, an online Git repository hosting service, on March 1 by contributors uberhalit, DubbleClick, and mrdellis, who wrote the mod in C#.

According to the mod's Github page, the mod removes the game's built-in frame rate limit while also giving players the ability to change the field of view (FOV). It also adds widescreen support, alter the game speed and the ability to keep your runes after dying in-game.

How to Use the Mod

The mod doesn't modify any game files as it only patches RAM, but it doesn't work with the game's legitimate and... not-so legitimate versions. However, players would have to make sure that they are running the game in offline mode while keeping its Easy Anti-Cheat feature disabled.

To install the mod and run "Elden Ring" at more than 60 fps, you have to set your GPUs graphics setup to its highest level. For NVIDIA users, this means going to an Elden Ring profile and setting its preferred refresh rate to "highest available." If you aren't using GSYNC/FreeSYNC, then setting Vsync to "off" would do the trick.

However, if you do want to use GSYNC/FreeSYNC, then set your monitor technology to "G-Sync" while putting the Preferred refresh rate to "Highest available" and Vsync to "USe the 3D application setting."

For AMD users, go to Radeon Settings and select "Wait for Vertical Refresh" to Enhanced Sync, Fast Sync or Always Off.
In both cases, you'll have to start "Elden Ring FPS Unlocker and More" and start the game through the first button. After which, set your new refresh rate limit, tick the box and click "Patch Game."

It goes without saying that the mod would only work for PC, but the PC in question has to have a .NET Framework 4.8 installed, a 64 bit OS and administrative privileges.

'Elden Ring's' Limitations and Mod Usage Risks

"Elden Ring" was released on February 25 for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and Series S and PC. However, it can only be played at 60 fps, which is the acceptable frame rate for most video games, according to Blue Cine Tech.

However, some have computers and monitors that can go past the 60 fps framerate and would like to go further than the game would allow.

A game played at more than 60 fps makes movements in it smoother, clearer, and more fluid, which gives players the ability to react quicker than those playing at 60 fps. Games played at more than 60 fps also have less or no motion blur at all, per a Uniscolian article.

However, there is a catch when using mods in a game that is usually played online. A PC Gamer article said that FromSoftware's EAsy Anti-Cheat can detect mods or cheats while online - even if they were used while offline. As such, mods like the FPS unlocker must be removed before hopping back to the online scene, which could be a pain to most people.

We'll get back to you if the mod has dodged FromSoftware's ban hammer or not.
