#ToyTech: What Beyblade is and Where You Can Get Your Own

Beyblades are back at it again! Fans interested in the toys from the hit TV show that aired back in 1999 can buy these collectibles in selected shops.

Beyblades are toys that follow the principle of tops. The only difference is that Beyblades look cooler. These toys are small spinning objects that are built to collide with each other. The objective is to be the last one standing by taking out other opponents or withstanding attacks.

Where Did Beyblades Come From

The original manga series produced by famous toymaker Takara Tomy in 1999 was later adapted into a full anime series in 2001. Due to the popularity of the show, there was a significant boost in sales of Beyblade-related merchandise.

Notably, Tomy expanded its franchise to the international market with the help of Hasbro in 2002, per NPR.

Hasbro Marketing Vice President Derryl DePriest emphasized that one of the biggest appeals to the Beyblade franchise is how children can easily customize the Beyblades and add a level of personalization.

What are Beyblades

According to Beyblade official website, a toy Beyblade consists of four basic parts: the GT chip, Energy Layer Base, Forge disk, and the Performance Tip.

For reference, the GT chip is responsible for the direction of the spin, whereas the Energy Layer affects how the Beyblade will interact with opponents.

On the other hand, the Forge Disk is in charge of the toy's center of gravity and weight. Finally, the Performance Tip is responsible for keeping the Beyblade in the stadium.

Note that there are four different types of Beyblades: attack, defense, stamina, and balanced.

  • Attack Beyblades are fast-moving and are often used against stamina types.
  • Defense Beyblades  are sturdy and can withstand attacks but may not spin long enough.
  • Stamina Beyblades  can spin for prolonged times without any interruption.
  • Balanced Beyblades are a harmonious combination of all other types.

Keep in mind that the parts for each Beyblade are easy to dismantle. So kids can pair up different pieces with other combinations to make each Beyblade unique.

What is next for the Beyblade

Fans interested in Beyblades might be happy to know that Paramount Pictures just announced that a Beyblade live-action movie is in the works. Cgmagonline says that Jerry Bruckheimer will be in charge of the production.

It is noteworthy that in the past, Paramount has attempted to make movies based on other toy franchises such as the Transformers. These received mixed feelings from fans.

But Bruckheimer also produced the successful "Pirates of the Caribbean," "National Treasure," and "Lucifer." So this teases a lot of potential to the incoming show.

Sources also say that Neil Widener and Gavin James will be tasked to write the script. For reference, one of their most notable works is the comic adaptation of DC's "Hourman."

Fans interested in buying Beyblades can bpurchase the toy on Amazon or buybeyblades.com. For just $7-10 or $14-20, fans can buy standard and collector's edition Beyblade sets.
