Nokia to launch 6-inch 'Bendit' phablet

Nokia is gearing up to unleash a bevy of smartphones and a phablet called "Bendit" if reports are to be believed.

After the Lumia 1020, it is the upcoming "Nokia Bendit" that will create some buzz.

According to Chinese site WPDang's sources, Nokia has a 6-inch device, it's first-ever phablet in the works, which will allegedly launch after the Lumia 1020 makes its debut.

"The sources disclosed to WPDang, at the Nokia factory prototype devices discovered a code-named Bendit, according to sources disclosed that the back shell of the device size is about 6 inches or so devices roughly in the mid position, and the release date will be after the EOS. But the sources did not reveal the specific parameters of the equipment," reads a rough translation of the WPDang report.

In other words, a prototype device codenamed "Bendit" has been spotted at the Nokia factory, sporting a shell of roughly 6 inches. WPDang's sources did not disclose the exact specs of the purported device, but said the phablet would make its debut after the Lumia 1020 launches. Nokia already announced its 41-megapixel Lumia 1020, which would mean that the "Bendit" phablet may arrive soon.

Additionally, a Twitter post by @leakschina confirms the same, claiming that Nokia will launch a 6-inch device dubbed the "Bendit," which will run on the new Windows Phone 8.1 operating system and launch after the Nokia EOS aka Lumia 1020.

"Nokia Bendit - 6-inch phablet. Windows Phone 8.1. Launch - after Nokia EOS. 2013," tweeted @leakschina.

Interestingly, the "Bendit" codename sounds like it is meant for a device that is flexible. For all we know, Nokia may surprise everyone and introduce a phone with a bendable screen (like the Youm) and beat Samsung and LG to the race.

No additional details regarding the specs and features of the upcoming phablet are currently available. However, Nokiapoweruser notes that the device has a 6-inch back shell and could have a screen size between 4.5 to 5 inches "as Nokia will not let go of bezels so easily."

Nokia has been rumored to be working on a phablet for sometime now. The Finnish company has already proved successful with the popularity of its WP8-powered Lumia smartphones that cater to all segments. Now it seems that Nokia is looking to venture into the phablet space as well and take on the likes of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 3 and Sony's Togari.

The authenticity of the leaked images is circumspect, which means it's best to take the news with a pinch of salt until Nokia officially announces the "Bendit."
