Mario Day: McDonald's Brings Back Happy Meal Promotion, Nintendo Offers Discounted Mario Games

Good News for Mario games fans! Several companies, including McDonalds and Nintendo Switch, are offering some discounts and freebies to celebrate National Mario Day.

Before the celebration date, McDonalds brought back the "Super Mario Kart" happy meal promotion, while Nintendo Switch have been offering up to 40% discounts to some Mario titles.

Mario Day

For those curious to know about the history of Mario Day, Days Of The Year explained that when writing down the date "Mar. 10," it has a similarity with spelling out the name "Mario."

Mario initially appeared in Nintendo's "Donkey Kong" game. Since its introduction, Days Of The Year also added that Mario was not the plumber that we know today when he first appeared in this game in the early 1980s.

In fact, his first name was "Mr. Jumpman" and he was known as a carpenter.

Despite the fact that Mario Day was most likely invented by fans, Nintendo ultimately recognized it as National Mario Day in 2016. The game company has been known to advertise the day by giving discounts on Mario's games, so now would be a good opportunity to pick up these vintage titles at a discount!

Mario Day: McDonalds Happy Meal Promotion

According to Comicbook, McDonalds brought back the "Super Mario Kart" happy meal promotion at selected branches only.

"Super Mario Kart" fans may acquire Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Toadette, Bowser, and Donkey Kong action figures as part of the deal, which started today March 8. Similar to the game, each character is riding one of the series' karts or bikes, some of which are anti-gravity.

For background information, the mentioned toys were produced as part of a McDonald's promotion for Mario Kart 8's Wii U release in 2014. The 2014 McDonalds happy meal promotion allowed kids to wear a Mario Kart-themed visor, but this year's marketing has replaced it with Toadette.

Similar to the 2014 promotion, the action figures also come with decals to customize the karts.

In relation to this, Comicbook also reported that this is also a perfect way for Nintendo to introduce the "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" Booster Course Pass.

Nintendo further emphasized that: "Courses include those based on real-world locations like Paris Promenade and Tokyo Blur from the Mario Kart Tour game in addition to nostalgic favorites like N64 Choco Mountain and Wii Coconut Mall! Content will release in 6 waves of 8 courses from March 18, 2022 until the end of 2023."
