Uber Eats Announces Group Ordering Features: Bill Splitting, Auto-Reminders, and More!

Ubers Eats just launched group ordering!

Group ordering will solve the daunting problem of ordering on behalf of friends and family while also considering food preference. Group ordering will allow every member of the group to order their food choice on the chosen restaurant and split the bill.

The new feature also has multiple options like bill splitting, covering the bill for the group, setting out order deadlines, and sending order reminders.

Uber Eats Group Ordering

As reported by The Verge, Uber Eats just recently launched a new feature in the Uber Eats app that allows users to be able to have a group order. This feature surely does make everything better especially when ordering for a large group of people.

Ordering for a large number of people can get overwhelming since different people have different preferences, and allergens. Gone are the days when the one ordering the food needs to pass their phone so everyone can pick the food of their choice.

The process for doing this is as follows:

  • Navigate directly to the restaurant users want to order from.
  • Click on the three dots in the top-right corner of the page.
  • Then select "group order."

After selecting group order, the host will be able to invite members through their contacts. The invited members will then receive an order link or a text message.

Bill Splitting for Group Ordering

Every member the host has invited will be able to place their order from the chosen restaurant. With this comes another helpful feature Uber Eats has also implemented: the bill splitting option in group ordering.

After a member has placed their order, they can immediately pay for their own share of the bill.

This feature comes in handy to the host as it assures everyone has paid their obligations with the right amount. This saves the hassle of nudging other people to lend or cover for another member for various reasons.

However, if the host would like to pay the order for everyone, Uber Eats also gives them an option to cover for the entire bill. In addition, the host can also set spending limits to discourage people from ordering the most expensive item on the menu. Uber states that all of the food will be delivered at the same time, regardless of whether it is paid in full or the host chose to split the bill.

Order Deadline

Some members might get too busy with their everyday tasks that they keep on forgetting to place an order. To address this problem, the Uber Eats group order feature lets the host of the group specify a convenient checkout deadline for everyone.

To give everybody ample time to decide what they want, deadlines can be set up to seven days in advance.

Auto-Reminders for Group Ordering

According to Uber, aside from order deadlines, Uber Eats also has the feature of notifying members in case they forgot to order. Every member in the group order will be reminded to submit their orders on time so that the host would not have to choose on their behalf.

This can also be extremely useful for planned events. Uber Eats will notify everybody to choose their food in case they forgot.

Uber's new Group Ordering features are here to make getting together for meals easier than ever before.
