What to Do When Your Phone Gets Soaked Wet, According to Apple, Samsung, and More

A soaking wet phone, even those that are said to be waterproof, is every phone's worst nightmare.

Should it ever happen to you, it will not be a surprise if you end up panicking and doing things to your wet phone that you should not do. Ever worse, you might even end up making things worse. 

So how exactly should you properly deal with a wet phone? Apple, Samsung, and more have this to say:

For iPhone owners, this is what you have to do when your phone gets wet: According to Apple, you should wipe your iPhone off with a soft cloth that is also lint-free. If a liquid that is not water was spilled on your device, make sure to rinse it with tap water as well. 

"To dry your iPhone, tap it gently against your hand with the Lightning connector facing down to remove excess liquid," Apple instructs. The tech giant also recommends leaving your device in a dry area that has some airflow. You can likewise opt to leave it in front of a fan that is blowing cool air into the Lightning connector. 

What you should not do when your phone gets what are the following:

  • Opening the SIM tray without making sure your device is completely dry
  • Using an external heat source to dry your device
  • Inserting a cotton swab, paper towl, or any other object into the Lightning connector

What to Do When Your Phone Gets Wet, According to Huawei

Got a Huawei phone? Should water ever get into your phone, Huawei recommends placing your device in a dry but well-ventilated area. You should also make sure to power off your device.

It is also important to make sure to wipe the surface dry with a material that will not damage your phone and its screen. Once that is done, remove your SIM and other memory cards you may have. It is then recommended that you bring your device to the service center. 

The same procedure should also be followed should other liquids that are not water get into your phone. These include but are not limited to alcohol, oil, and UV adhesive.

Like the other tech giants in this list, LG recommends drying your phone in a well-ventilated area should you drop it in clean water. It is being recommended to avoid direct sunlight and to not turn the device on while still wet. 

However, should you drop your phone in another kind of liquid, there is a different set of steps you have to follow. 

According to LG, you should remove the battery first and then clean the device in running water so that they can get rid of the dust, dirt, or other things that entered your phone. After that, dry your device in a well-ventilated area that is out of direct sunlight.

One of the things that Samsung wants you to keep in mind if your device does get wet is to make sure to turn it off right away. Next, make sure to remove the SIM card and battery right away. 

Once that is done, dry the device first. The device has to be dried well before you attempt to turn it on. If the device does not turn on, it is best to bring it to the service center.
