Fallout New Vegas Mod 'Building Bridges' Brings Fun New Messaging Feature From Elden Ring

Fallout New Vegas players just got a way to communicate with each other in-game.

The popular Bethesda game recently got a new mod called "Building Bridges" that lets players leave messages for others to find and read a la Elden Ring or Dark Souls.

The mod is currently available in Nexus Mods.

Fallout New Vegas 'Building Bridges' Details

According to the mod's Nexus Mods page, the Building Bridges mod or plugin (BB for short) allows players to interact with each other with messages left behind in the game world. These messages will appear in other players' playthroughs, which they can read.

The mod also works in any interior or exterior cell from any mod, meaning that players can leave messages in Fallout New Vegas' Official DLCs, Project Brazil, Tale of Two Wastelands, and New Vegas Bounties. The mod can also work with any mod downloaded from Nexus Mods or other mod hosting sites, such as Mod DB.

However, players wanting to read a specific player's message will need to have the same mods installed. Players who don't have Fallout New Vegas' Tale of Two Wastelands mod can't read the messages from someone who does have it.

Additionally, the messages left behind by players are subject to a rating system, where players can leave a like on your message to increase its rating and the player who wrote it. These ratings increase or decrease a player's level, which dictates how many messages a player can leave at one time and their length. A player with a high message level can place more and longer messages for other players to find and read.

Players, and anyone else for that matter, should keep in mind that they can't see whose messages they are liking.

Messages placed in the game can be removed by those who left them through the BB menu. Removing a message which gained likes won't affect the player's rating.

However, players can't leave just any message as these are subjects to one specific rule: don't be an unpleasant person. The mod's creator, TommInfinite, mentioned on the page that messages involving real-life politics in any way or form, offending people, racism, players' personal information, offensive content, and other ill-favored messages would result in a ban from posting new messages.

As such, players finding someone else's message offensive can report them by pressing "Report this message" in the message view menu.

Players who are interested in downloading the mod should keep in mind that it requires an internet connection for it to function as intended and that there is no direct connection between their PC and others'.

Also, there is no cause for worry for those wondering whether their Nexus API key is stored on the server or not. It is used only to receive their BB key. After the key is acquired, players' Nexus API key can be deleted from the INI file as all later authentication is done via BB key.

TommInfinite mentioned he chose to use the Nexus API key for authentication because the alternative could add more headaches to players. Without the fast authentication, players would have to register on the site and provide their email and a password.

Installing 'Building Bridges"

Players who are interested in using the Building Bridges mod will first have to download the mod and all its requirements. They are then required to get a Nexus API key and look for the mod's name at the bottom of the page there.

After receiving their Nexus API key, players have to launch the game and enter their Nexus API key in the popup box for the mod. The game's main menu should display the text "Nexus API key is detected" if the connection is successful.

After the connection, players would then have to load any previous save game and press "Yes" on the popup box that would appear to get their BB key. They then have to restart the game and see "BB::Ready, Fetched N messages," where the N is the real number of processed messages. Once players see this message, then the Building Bridges mod is successfully installed.
