1Password 8 for iOS Devices Is Now Available for Download … in Early Access

Keeping track of passwords through multiple accounts and devices can be a brain wrecker for even the best of us. So much so that some of us have resorted to reusing one password for multiple websites for convenience. However, doing so will make hackers' work easier and faster, which leaves people vulnerable to various cybercrimes.

Password managers can take the burden off users by helping them keep track of and manage the passwords used on various sites. One of them is 1Password, which went through a redesign in 2021. This new version became available for Macs in August 2021 and Windows in November 2021.

However, the list adds one more platform to its list: iOS devices.

1Password recently announced it had made its brand new iOS app, which is in early access, available to iOS devices. This new app is called 1Password 8, a separate app from 1Password 7.

1Password 8 Early Access Details

According to 1Password's blog post on the matter, the new iOS app brings the features that make 1Password great along with others that came with decades of experience shipping apps for iOS.

The new app was written with SwiftUI and Rust, making it more stable, performant, and secure than its predecessors.

According to The Verge's report, 1Password 8 has a home screen that lets you access your vaults, categories, and lists of recently created or modified passwords. This home page can also be personalized to the way you like it. If you want to place the Favorites and Categories tabs, you can move them up the home screen for easier access.

1Password 8 also comes with the Watchtower feature that informs you if a password was compromised by hackers and other security problems with the items saved in the app.

1Password made fragments of the Watchtower feature available with its iOS apps, with the old versions lacking a screen that lets you manage your overall security.

Classic features, such as unlock with Touch or Face ID, Password AutofFill, and the use of 1Password's browser extension in Safari makes a return in 1Password 8.

1Password promises that more features will be coming to the app as they will be gradually added to it before its official release later in 2022. According to the company, item sharing, additional Home tab content, Apple Watch support account management, and an essential settings walkthrough will be coming to the app at undisclosed dates.

There's a Catch

Although 1Password 8 looks great even in its early access stage, the app is still incomplete, which is the definition of an early access release. The Verge reports that there will probably be a few bugs for testers to catch. If you're looking to use 1Password 8 as a password manager for work and everyday life, it's probably best to wait for an official release.

However, if you're fine with the occasional hiccup or two, you can join the testing through 1Password's TestFlight program.
