Genshin Impact’s 2.7 Update Could Get Delayed — Here’s Why

Genshin Impact's 2.7 update's release is at risk of being delayed.

A recent report from Game Rant mentioned that the upcoming update from HoYoverse's hit game could get delayed due to quarantine measures currently in place in the city of Shanghai in China.

Game Rant and other publications previously predicted that Genshin Impact's 2.7 update would arrive on May 11.

Genshin Impact 2.7 Update Delay Details

The release dates of Genshin Impact's updates are not difficult to predict. According to Gameort's article, the updates come on a regular six-week patch schedule, meaning that update 2.7 should arrive on May 11, barring any delays.

However, events in Hoyoverse's home country of China could set the release date later than expected.

Shanghai, China, which is where Hoyoverse is headquartered, is currently experiencing surges of COVID-19 cases high enough that the Chinese government is forcing residents to remain in their homes and apartments until the government-mandated lockdown is over, per Reuters.

The lockdown was said to have put a strain on logistics, causing supply chain disruptions in the city. This disruption led to people screaming in unison due to frustration and starvation, per the New York Post and South China Morning Post. However, Reuters reported that the restrictions were partially eased in some areas this week.

Another possible explanation why HoYoverse could release Genshin Impact update 2.7 later than expected is the addition of a new Serenitea Pot feature. This in-game feature is currently in maintenance mode due to issues with the feature's placement mode, per the in-game message HoYoverse issued as shown on Reddit.

HoYoverse might want to work on the feature so it could go out at the same time as update 2.7. However, this is merely speculation at this point.

What Happens Until Then?

Game Rant cited a Reddit post in r/Genshin Leaks that provided some hints on what HoYoverse plans to do while the update is still in limbo.

According to the post, the Marvelous Merchandise event would be making a comeback after update 2.6's supposed last event, Leyline Overflow. In addition to the Marvelous Merchandise event, there could be a filler banner between Ayaka's banner and Genshin Impact 2.7 update's first banner, which would act similarly to Keqing's banner in update 1.3.

Yelan and Shinobu Details

As for Yelan and Kuki Shinobu's banners, they are both expected to be coming in update 2.7, per Sportskeeda. Yelan is expected to be an "explosive" bow-wielding 5-star Hydro DPS that has an enhanced charged attack, elemental skill, and burst that deals damage based on her max HP, according to The Loadout.

Kuki Shinobu is expected to be the 4-star character between the two, with her probably being featured with Arataki Itto's banner due to their relationship as the leader and member of the Arataki Gang, respectively.

Shinobu is expected to be a sword-wielding electro sub-DPS that sacrifices a certain amount of her health to damage enemies in an area of effect, per Pocket Tactics. She has an elemental skill and burst that deals continuous electro damage based on her max HP.
