Pokémon Go Is Making Significant Changes to Its Mega Evolutions — Is There a New Feature?

According to the report by Game Informer, the present approach to Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Go will be drastically changed in a future update. Mega Evolutions currently demand a high amount of candy in order for a Pokémon to evolve into its larger form, which is only available for a limited period.

More candy is necessary each time the player wants to use this strong form, and it isn't easy to come by because it is linked to timed raids and missions.

After the update, Mega Evolving a Pokémon will have a one-time fee, allowing you to evolve it without expending any additional candies.

Dot Esport noted that the only catch is that after Mega Evolving, your Pokémon will get "fatigued," which means it will need to rest for a while before turning Mega again. However, players can spend Mega Energy to reduce the cooldown time, with the amount of Mega Energy required to Mega Evolve a Pokémon reducing as the cooldown time decreases.

Introducing the Mega Levels

Dot Esport mentioned that Mega Levels were introduced to the game on April 25 in Australia and New Zealand, and will assist players to keep track of numerous aspects involved in Mega Evolution.

Mega Levels, a new feature, incentivizes the player to use these evolved forms. Each transformation advances you to the next Mega Level. According to Game Informer, players will earn additional perks while using a Pokémon as they progress through the levels.

With Mega Levels, Trainers will have a new way to assist their Pokémon to grow. When a Pokémon Mega Evolves, it strives to improve its Mega Level. Trainers will receive extra bonuses when a Pokémon's Mega Level increases.

Niantic details the bonuses in a blog post:

  • Increased Candy when you catch Pokémon that are the same type as your Mega-Evolved Pokémon
  • While attacking with a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in a Raid Battle or a Gym battle, the attacks of other Trainers' Pokémon challenging that same raid or Gym will deal more damage. Their Pokémon's attacks will deal even more damage if the attack is the same type as your Mega-Evolved Pokémon.
  • Increased chance of earning Candy XL when you catch Pokémon that are the same type as your Mega-Evolved Pokémon. (new in this update)
  • Increased XP for catching Pokémon that are the same type as your Mega-Evolved Pokémon. (new in this update)
  • A Pokémon's rest period decreases as its Mega Level increases. (new in this update)

Other Details Regarding Mega Evolutions

According to Polygon, Mega Evolutions were added to Pokémon Go in the summer of 2020.

Initially, the Mega Energy acquired from raids could only be used to evolve four Pokémon: Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Beedrill. Niantic has introduced more over time, but many gamers haven't taken to the system because of Mega Evolutions' short lifespan and the energy expenditures associated with engaging with the mechanics.

Because it can be difficult to recruit players for Mega Raids, Niantic has decided to make Mega Energy available through other sources, such as research activities.
