We might know more about Google's first consumer smartwatch in just a few weeks.

Google is allegedly preparing to tease or reveal its worst-kept secret, the Google Pixel Watch, at the upcoming Google I/O event on May 11 to 12, according to a recent CNET report.

The Pixel watch was previously leaked by Reddit user u/tagtech414 through Android Central and the Reddit forum r/Google Pixel.

Google's Plans With Pixel Watch

CNET's report suggests that Google might be introducing the Pixel Watch during its next I/O event, but the company has yet to decide how it would do it.

On the one hand, it could go like its usual reveals where Google would introduce each of the Pixel Watch's features one by one, just as it does to most of its products.

On the other is a teaser meant to keep the mystery surrounding the Pixel Watch. This approach is plausible as Google already set a precedent with how they slowly revealed the Pixel 6 smartphone in 2021, per a separate CNET report.

Should Google go through with this approach, it is highly likely it will do so during the event's keynote address, which provides the company with an opportunity to reveal a few tidbits about the development of a product without piercing the veil of mystery.

Reliable leaker Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech claims on his Twitter page that Google could go through with the latter approach to launch the Pixel Watch during the fall alongside the Pixel 7 smartphone.

Android Central also theorized that the Pixel Watch could be released with the Pixel 7 in November while being announced on Google I/O 2022.

What We Know About the Pixel Watch So Far

From what we have gathered so far, the Pixel Watch looks identical to images leaked by Prosser in December 2021. It features a minimalist design with little to no bezels, has a rotating crown, and potentially two hidden buttons, which could be used to turn the device off and on, return to the home screen, or a shortcut to view recently opened apps. It could also come with a microphone or an altimeter sensor to track its user's stair climbing.

Google's first commercial smartwatch could also come with a longer battery life thanks to its 300 mAh battery. To put that into perspective, Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4 only has a 247mAh battery that lasts 40 hours with regular use, per Tom's Guide.

The smartwatch is also rumored to support cellular connectivity on top of a heart rate sensor, which is a welcome tool for people trying to watch their heart rate.

Tom's Guide revealed in a separate article that it expects the Pixel Watch to be in the mid-priced category despite the lack of reference on the matter. While the Apple Watch Series 7 and Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4 start at $399 and $249, respectively, the Pixel Watch could cost between $200 and $350 depending on the size and LTE variants.
