Samsung ATIV S and Nokia Lumia Windows Phone now receiving GDR2 update

Good news for owners of Nokia Lumia device owners in France as the much-awaited WP8 build 10327 (GDR2) update is now being rolled out to the smartphones in the country. Moreover, the international version of the Samsung ATIV S is also receiving the GDR2 update.

The information of the update making its way to France comes courtesy of Nokia France's Group Product Manager Olivier Lagreou who confirmed the same via a Twitter post.

"Nokia France has revealed that Windows Phone 8 build 10327 (GDR2), coupled with Nokia's Amber firmware update for Lumia Windows Phones, is underway in the local market. Group product manager, Olivier Lagreou today announced on Twitter that the software update is now being pushed out to Windows Phone 8 hardware made by the manufacturer," reports WPCentral.

The latest release brings several new features and improvements, including the Glance Screen feature.

If you own an unlocked WP8-powered Nokia Lumia handset then you should receive the Amber update soon as it is being rolled out in phases. However, those who own a carrier-branded device will have to wait till their mobile operator pushes out the update.

What's more, the Samsung ATIV S has also come to the party as the unlocked and international variants of the smartphone are now receiving the GDR2 update as well.

"It looks like those with unlocked and international ATIV S devices, which includes ourselves, are ready to get the update," notes another report from WPCentral.

The GDR2 update was pushed out a day earlier on Aug. 5 in Canada with subscribers on Bell, Rogers and TELUS benefiting from the new OS build.

To check if you have received the GDR2 update on your Samsung ATIV S go to Settings > Phone Update > Check for updates. If the firmware is available for download you can do so and install it. However, remember that you will need to be on Wi-Fi to do so. The download process takes between 5 to 10 minutes and the installation around 20 minutes so make sure that you have sufficient battery charge on your smartphone.

It will be interesting to see if the GDR2 update for the unlocked and international variants of the ATIV S also skips the pre-defined camera app and FM radio feature like its Canadian counterparts.
