Here is What You Have to Know About Fitbit's Sleep Profiles Feature

Google announced on Wednesday that a new premium feature is being introduced in Fitbit. It's called "Sleep Profile," which will help you make sense of your sleep data.

The new feature offers you a new longitudinal analysis of sleep patterns. In addition, it will make sleep data easier to interpret.

How FitBit's Sleep Profile Works

Fitbit's new Sleep Profile feature will analyze your sleep each month based on 10 metrics. Data points like bedtime consistency, the time before sound sleep and disrupted sleep will also be included.

Afterwards, it will compare the readings on what is considered as typical for a person's age and gender.

These new data points will "provide users a monthlong view of their sleep patterns and quality," according to TechCrunch. This is along with previously tracked metrics like sleep duration and restfulness.

To see where your results fall and to determine where you can improve, ideal ranges for each data point will be provided to you.

You need to wear your Fitbit device to bed for at least 14 nights per calendar month in order to receive an assessment. Google noted that the assessment will be more precise the more you wear the device while sleeping. This is due to the fact that sleep can vary from night to night.

This latest update of Fitbit shows that tech giants are paying more attention to the relevance of sleep and its contribution to overall wellness.

Fitbit's Sleep Profile seems to be similar with Samsung's Sleep Coaching feature. Back in February, Samsung announced this feature for the Galaxy Watch 4.

According to CNET, "both programs assign wearers a specific animal meant to symbolize their sleeping patterns."

According to Google, it is easier to analyze your sleep data in Sleep Profile with animal characters. Sleep animal and monthly sleep analysis will be available to premium members on the first day of every month.

From month to month, the animals you receive can change. The next animal you will receive in the following month will depend on the data collected throughout the month.

There isn't an ideal animal, according to Google. Each animal can be used to better understand your sleep patterns. Moreover, it can be utilized to improve your sleep quality.

Sleep Profile is Rolling Out in the Fitbit App to Premium Users

Upon launch, Sleep Profile will be available out in the Fitbit app to premium users with Sense, Versa 3, Versa 2, Charge 5, Luxe or Inspire 2 devices. During the week of July 4, you will receive your first profile. It will be followed by monthly profiles delivered in the Fitbit app on the first of each month.

According to Fitbit, since the introduction of sleep features in 2009, they have analyzed over 22 billion hours of sleep data. Moreover, the features continue to be one of its most popular ones.

Google's already announced that the new Pixel Watch will offer Fitbit's health-tracking features. With this, it can be noted that the new Sleep Profile feature could possibly be available in the smartwatch.

Many tech companies are starting to focus on sleep features. Recently, Apple has improved sleep tracking in the next version of watchOS.
