Skyrim Can Be Played With Up to Five Players Soon — Here’s How

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the longest-living single-player video games currently in the gaming industry. For a game released on November 11, 2011, it can still hold its own against other newly released AAA open-world games, multiplayer or otherwise, because of the game's modding community.

Skyrim's modding community was able to turn some of its monsters into Thomas the Train and add lore-breaking weapons like Cloud Strife's Buster Sword or Corvo Attano's Mark of the Outsider and retractable sword.

Skyrim's modding community will soon be adding one more feature to the game: multiplayer.

That's right. Bethesda's most famous entry in its The Elder Scrolls series, which is exclusively single-player, can soon be played with four other Dragonborn friends thanks to a mod releasing this week, per PC Gamer.

The mod in question will be a complete release rather than a beta test, per its creators' Reddit post.

Skyrim Together Details

A team of modders mentioned in a post in the r/Games subreddit that it is releasing a mod titled "Skyrim Together Reborn" on Nexus this week.

The mod was developed as the successor to the old Skyrim Together mod, which is almost the same as its successor aside from the fact that it uses coding from the Skyrim Script Extender without permission.

The use of the Script Expender forced the team to rewrite Skyrim Together from the ground up, resulting in its successor, per the wiki the mod's developers linked.

Thanks to the rewriting, Skyrim Together Reborn is advertised by its developers as "significantly better than old 'Skyrim Together.'"

As for features, the developers mentioned that the NPCs and monsters are fully synched, meaning that if you see a dragon flying above you, your friend can see it too. However, random encounters, such as meeting a prisoner being escorted by the game's various factions, may not always appear in everyone's world.

Fortunately, important NPCs and monsters are synched in terms of animations, position, combat, and death state.

Quests are also fully synched, meaning that other players can see what quests are active in your playthrough. The same can be said for projectiles, magic spells and effects, locks and lock picking, horses, puzzles, stealth, and in-game time.

However, the developers are advising players to stick to one party leader per playthrough instead of per session, as doing so will probably break the current quests you're doing on your own, and it might break quests after that.

Simply put, it's best to create two separate characters or two playthroughs with the same character: one for multiplayer purposes, and one for yourself.

Additionally, players are advised to not use the mod before and during the escape of Helgen Keep at the beginning of the game.

Furthermore, when a player dies, they will respawn at a nearby location a la GTA Online. However, when a player dies inside a dungeon or any type of interior, they will respawn by the entrance instead of loading the last autosave.

Players that do use the mod are advised to think ahead as the use of the mod puts the game's difficulty under "Expert," possibly to not make the game easier because of multiplayer.

Skyrim Together Reborn Availability And Price

Skyrim Together Reborn will be available on NexusMods on July 8 at 4 PM GMT. The mod will only work for those who have Skyrim Special Edition 1.6 on Steam.

Meanwhile, the VR, console, Legendary, and Gamepass Editions are not supported along with Skyrim Special Edition 1.5.

Skyrim Together Reborn's developers mentioned that it would be releasing it as a full mod instead of a beta thanks to some last-minute improvements.
