Ford's Electric Versions of its Smaller Maverick and Ranger Pickup Trucks Get Trademarks; What Will They Be Called?

These latest trademark registrations would give each of the three vehicles the "Thunder" brand in both North American countries, the similar monicker named for a European Ranger variant.

F-150, Ranger, and Maverick Gets 'Thunder' Monicker

Ford recently filed a trademark application for the name "Thunder" with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This suggests it is getting ready to introduce a new trim level for all three trucks, the F-150, Ranger, and the brand-new Maverick.

These new filings would give each of the three trucks the Thunder moniker for North American nations, although Ford previously used the Thunder name for a European Ranger model version.

The Maverick is the smallest and more recent pickup truck from Ford. The Ranger used to be a compact pickup truck, but it went on a hiatus between 2012 and 2019 before the firm relaunched the nameplate as a mid-size pickup.

It is often recognized as Ford's international pickup since it is often the only consumer pickup truck Ford offers in markets outside North America.

Jim Farley, the CEO, predicted that the carmaker would electrify a number of other well-liked pickup trucks in its inventory. Ford is currently scaling up delivery of the F-150 Lightning, and these are the first signs that the carmaker is genuinely extending its portfolio of electric pickup trucks.

It has officially submitted trademark applications for its Maverick and Ranger pickup truck electrified variants in Europe and the U.S.

Additionally, Ford has requested the European Union Trademark Office register the names "Maverick Lightning" and "Ranger Lightning" in Europe.

Volkswagen Collabs with Ford Ranger for Amarok 2023

The second-generation Volkswagen Amarok pickup vehicle is unveiled, which is set to launch in a few regions by the end of 2022.

The Amarok is twinned with the most recent Ford Ranger. It was conceptualized, developed, and designed in a "global alliance" program in Australia, Germany, and the U.S.

The new VW has a broader selection of engines, including a top-of-the-line 247-hp turbocharged 3.0L diesel V-6, bolder style, a more opulent interior with new digital features, more than 30 driver-assistance systems, and more.

A 4-door double-cab variant will be the main focus of Amarok's first sales. The 4-door double-cab variant of the Amarok will be the main focus of first sales. As part of a concerted effort to see the Amarok challenge established rivals like the Toyota Hi-Lux, Mitsubishi Triton, and Ford Ranger, VW also confirms a 2-door single-cab workhorse model will join the lineup next year.

Volkswagen has also given the Amarok a more pronounced style bar. It helps to visually prolong the cabin, giving the new model more flair than its forerunner.

With front and rear approach angles of 29 and 21 degrees, a ramp angle of 21 degrees, and shorter overhangs than its predecessor, VW claims the new-generation Amarok is more suited to off-road driving.
