While the new Nexus 7 is currently hogging all the limelight, the first-gen Nexus 7 tablet has now received a considerable discount.
Retailer Staples is offering the 16GB variant of the Nexus 7 (2012) tablet for just $139.90. However, this offer is valid only for in-store purchases.
"Everyone's raving about the hottest new tablet on the market, the Nexus 7 (2013), but truth be told, the Nexus 7 (2012) is still a great little performer, and the 16GB model can be yours for a mere $139.99 from Staples!" reports Android Authority.
Alternately, if you want to purchase the 32GB variant you will have to shell out $179.90 instead of $219.90. To take advantage of the Staples offer use the coupon code 76704 (valid for only the 32GB variant of the first-gen Nexus 7) to get a $40 discount on the tablet during checkout. However, remember that these prices are not inclusive of taxes.
What's more, the coupon is valid for both online and in-store purchases and you can also use it when placing an order over the phone.
Earlier in July, we reported that Staples had slashed the price of both the 16GB and 32GB variants of the Nexus 7 and was offering a discount of $20 and $50 (on the original price), respectively.
A week later, the retailer reduced the price of the Nexus 7 tablets yet again and began offering the 16GB and 32GB versions for $149 and $169 (instead of $179 and $199), respectively, if consumers applied a coupon code.
At the time, the Staples price cut on the first-gen Nexus 7 had sparked off speculations that the retailer was clearing out older inventory in anticipation of the refreshed version of the tablet.
The first-gen Nexus 7 tablet touts a 7-inch display with pixel resolution of 1280 x 800 and a pixel density of 216 pixels per inch (ppi). It packs a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and is Wi-Fi and NFC enabled. The tablet comes pre-loaded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Google has also pushed out the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the slate.
