Google is expanding its video chatting app capabilities by adding a new feature that will enable users to live stream meetings on YouTube.

Amidst the skyrocketing demand for video calls in workspaces brought about by the pandemic, Google Meet is now rolling out the ability to livestream meetings on YouTube.

According to The Verge, the exciting new feature is now available to most paid Google Workplace accounts, including Enterprise tiers starter, standard, and plus, as well as Education Plus, Teaching and Learning upgrade, and Workplace individual subscribers.

Google One Premium plan members in some countries are also now allowed to use the Google Meet Livestream and showcase their meetings on YouTube.

How Does Google Meet Livestream on YouTube Work?

In a Workspace Update blog this week, the company explained that the Google Meet Livestream on YouTube is "useful in situations where you want to present information to large audiences outside of your organization, giving them the opportunity to pause and replay as needed, or view the presentation at a later time."

It's also a fun way for businesses to give their audiences a glimpse into chaotic meetings or simply provide more insights on their creative or decision making processes. Before users can enable a Google Meet Livestream on YouTube, they must have their channel approved for live streaming in advance, which may take up to 24 hours.

The new Google Meet Live Stream also requires that users' YouTube channel is connected to an ongoing meeting.

As per the user support page, the participant whose YouTube channel gets connected is the one who must initiate the live stream from inside Google Meet.

Once in a Google meet call, simply click Activities on the bottom right, then select Live Streaming and then Stream with YouTube. On the Event Info panel, users can then create a new event or select an event. Here, users will have to set an event title, privacy level, and language for captions to be displayed on YouTube.

Upon reviewing and accepting YouTube's Terms of Service, they can now click Start Streaming. To enable others to watch the Google Meet Livestream, simply copy and share the link with friends or colleagues.
