A New Documentary on Netflix Features Antivirus Pioneer John McAfee

John McAfee who engaged a film crew to document his escape from law police and the Mexican cartel, will be the watched in a new Neflix Documentary

'Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee' is Upcoming on Netflix

In a new documentary on Netflix, antivirus pioneer John McAfee is seen living on the run after being named a suspect in the 2012 murder of his neighbor in Belize. As McAfee eluded law enforcement and, it seems, the Mexican cartel, he recruited a film team to capture his adventure.

Video journalists are propelled into the chaos of McAfee's life in the documentary "Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee." The party travels through Belize and Guatemala while carrying weapons, drugs, and intoxicants. Somehow, they get themselves aboard a ship sailing to the Bahamas.

It would be an understatement to say that McAfee had an unusual past. Things began to go south for him after he became famous for founding the antivirus software business McAfee, which Intel purchased in 2021 when authorities in Belize named him a person of interest in the murder of his neighbor, Gregory Faull.

From then on, McAfee's behavior became more bizarre: he became interested in crypto, ran for president, and even created a "hack-proof" phone. He was detained in Spain in 2020 for tax evasion, where he was subsequently discovered dead before being extradited to the US. His demise was deemed to be a suicide.

On August 24, Run with the Devil will be available on Netflix. Produced by Curious Films, a British company, co-founder Dov Freedman told Deadline that the movie had been "10 years in the making." John McAfee has been the subject of a documentary called "Showtime Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee" released in 2016.

Netflix is Planning to Adapt 'The Gray Man' Into a Major Spy Series

Following this weekend's hugely successful release of "The Gray Man," which opened as the top film in 92 countries, Netflix is solidifying its ambitions for the IP to develop into a significant espionage series, according to Forbes. "The Gray Man" filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo and actor Ryan Gosling are scheduled to return for a follow-up to the extremely popular film, which has a 91 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The renowned screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Zombieland) will pen a spin-off movie examining a different aspect of "The Gray Man" world. The plot summary is being kept a secret.

Again, this came as no surprise given the movie's popularity and the notion that Netflix seems to have planned this project from the beginning with the intention of attempting to create its own "Fast and Furious," "Mission Impossible," or John Wick-style series.

"The Gray Man" concluded with the relatively traditional conclusion of the hero surviving and the villain dying. The plot hints a broader conspiracy behind the film's program, so there are undoubtedly more strands to be discovered, but it didn't finish on any cliffhanging questions.

It is just another instance of Netflix pouring a ton of cash and star power into a project that critics dislike but people like. Despite being panned by reviewers, "The Gray Man" seems to be following in the footsteps of Red Notice, which became the most watched movie on Netflix.
