Electrify America's Rapid Charging EV Network is Coming to 25 Ikea Sites

The fast EV charging network from Electrify America is coming to more than 25 Ikea stores in the US. It will put in more than 220 fast chargers that can charge up to 350kW in 18 states.

Electrify America in Collaboration with Ikea Will Deploy 220 fast Chargers in 25 Ikea Stores

Because Electrify America is delivering its rapid charging EV network to more than 25 Ikea locations in the US, be ready for your quickest walk-through of an Ikea shop yet.

As part of the initiative, more than 220 individual fast chargers with charging speeds up to 350kW would be deployed at Ikea facilities throughout 18 states. The first public chargers will start to appear by year's end, and by year's end 2023, all of them.

This relationship with Electrify America will allow us to progress toward our circular and climate-positive aims, says Ikea US CEO Javier Quiones. Ikea set a 2030 environmental goal, but it has bigger plans. By 2025, all deliveries will be electric.

Ikea is working with Electrify America's commercial division to install 225 more chargers to fulfill its electric delivery goals. Ikea aims to give customers and employees more incentives to use electric vehicles beyond public charging stations. Ikea installed Blink Level 2 charging stations at numerous stores in 2011.

The transaction involves charging station providers and conventional businesses. Volvo and ChargePoint will establish charging stations in five Starbucks locations. At the same time, GM will develop a coast-to-coast network at Pilot and Flying J truck stops. The Biden administration gave states new rules for granting EV infrastructure contracts to corporations that offer affordable, open public charging.

Volkswagen's Electrify America maintains 800 fast-charging stations in North America. Ikea plans to add 1,000 stores by 2026, so 25 more are insignificant. Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington will have Ikea Electrify America stations.

network of high-speed chargers throughout the United States has been built and run by General Motors in collaboration with Pilot Company and EVgo.

500 Pilot and Flying J roadside stops will each have 200 charging bays installed as part of the first phase. The areas projected to be operational during 2023 are depicted on the map below.

GM hopes to provide owners of its future electric vehicles the assurance that charging for a cross-country trip can be done fast and hassle-free by placing the chargers at Pilot and Flying J locations.

The charging bays, however, won't be restricted to vehicles from GM brands and would provide charging rates of up to 350 kilowatts. Instead, EVgo's EVgo eXtend service will be used to operate and maintain them.

Due to Plug and Charge and real-time charger information integrated with the vehicle's infotainment system, GM vehicle owners will still benefit from exclusive reservations, charging discounts, and a streamlined charging process.

With a vehicle like the 2022 GMC Hummer EV, an additional 100 miles of the range may be added in just 10 minutes by using a 350-kW charger.

By 2025, GM and EVgo hope to have installed more than 3,250 high-speed chargers in American cities and suburbs. The goal is to have charging stations spread nationwide at 50-mile intervals.
