Moto X Developer Edition (32GB) launching soon with unlockable bootloader

Good news for tech buffs as Motorola is gearing up to release the developer edition of its flagship Moto X smartphone soon.

The Moto X Developer Edition will come with an unlocked bootloader and 32GB of on-board storage capacity. What's more, this Moto X variant will also have the words "Developer Edition" engraved on the rear of the device to denote that it is a special version.

While the Developer Edition will "of course" have an unlockable bootloader, Motorola disclaims in footnotes that unlocking the bootloader of the smartphone "voids all warranties and may cause serious harm to your device."

The official Motorola website currently lists the Moto X Developer Edition as "coming soon" and does not disclose a specific date for this version's release.

Motorola has not divulged any other information pertaining to the impending developer edition of its recently-launched Moto X flagship.

The company has not disclosed any price point for the Moto X Developer Edition either, but it will likely be available for over $600 (carriers will charge similarly for the off-contract 32GB Moto X, around $639.99).

At this juncture, it is also not known if it would be possible for interested customers to purchase the customizable Developer Edition of the smartphone. However, the image on Motorola's website only shows off the standard white color option for the Moto X, which could hint at no customization options for the special Developer Edition of the handset.

Currently, the MotoMaker is exclusive to AT&T in the U.S. until November this year and it remains to be seen if the carrier will offer the Developer Edition of the Moto X as well. AT&T has started retailing the Moto X from Aug. 23 as promised. Verizon recently confirmed that it will begin offering the Moto X as well from Aug. 29. Other carrier such as Sprint and U.S. Cellular are expected to follow suit soon.

If you want to purchase the Moto X Developer Edition you will have to wait a bit longer until Motorola divulges more details. In the meantime, check out the standard 16GB variant of the Moto X from AT&T in black or white, which can be yours for $199.99 on a two-year contract.
