Acer Unveils the Vero 514 Chromebook, Sustainable, Repairable, Upgradable

Acer has released another eco-conscious hardware, the Chromebook Vero 514.

Acer has unveiled its first Chromebook in the eco-conscious Vero series. Apart from its performance and specs, the device also has a promising sustainability aspect to it.

Acer highlights that the Chromebook is made out of sustainable materials and designed to be repairable and upgradable.

The Chromebook Vero 514 has a unique, bold, and boxy design. The Vero Chromebook appears to be unlike any other ChromeOS device that has come before it, with the exception of its sharply rounded edges, which are also evocative of Google's Pixelbook.

It also has a noticeably paint-free cobblestone gray chassis manufactured from post-consumer recycled materials and has the signature honeycomb design.

Chromebook Vero 514's Sustainability

Acer claims that the Chromebook Vero 514 has a touchpad surface built completely from ocean-bound plastic, and the Chromebook's military-grade drop resistance (up to 4 feet) should allow it to survive a fall to the ground.

According to 9To5Google, the same material is also used in its chassis, wherein consumers can find that it is made up of 30 percent post-consumer recycled plastics, while the keycaps and the speakers of the hardware are made up of about 50 percent.

The Chromebook is also built to be as recyclable as possible. In fact, the display panel of the device is 99% recyclable.

Furthermore, since the bottom cover is attached with conventional screws, it is reasonably simple to remove, which makes it easier to repair or update the personal computer.

The Chromebook Vero 514 is designed to be readily opened for updates and repairs, which helps to reduce the amount of electronic trash produced. This sets it apart from the majority of other ChromeOS devices.

The term "upgrades" refers, for the most part, to nothing more than the addition of more RAM after the initial purchase.

However, if consumers, both individual and commercial users, want to make a few changes to their device, they can easily do so.

Acer will mainly wrap the Chromebook Vero 514 in recycled paper and plastic in an effort to limit the amount of trash produced, and the interior packaging can also be repurposed as a laptop stand. This move is part of Acer's larger commitment to environmental sustainability.
