The Mobile Legends map is not as simple as it looks. There are particular heroes that are recommended to use for every lane.
Which lanes should Mages go? How about Marksmen?
In this guide, we will discuss the basic knowledge you should know about the laning system in Mobile Legends.
What Are Lanes in Mobile Legends?
There is something called "laning" in Mobile Legends. Basically, there are three lanes where heroes go during the game: Mid, Top and Bottom.

However, Top Lane could be either Gold or EXP. The same thing goes with the Bottom Lane. So for the simplicity of this guide, I will use Gold and EXP for the naming conventions.
Mid Lane
Mid lane is usually used by mages. There is a reason why they are staying in this lane, especially during early games.
Mages provide assistance to Gold or EXP laners when your teammates want to gank the enemies or if your teammates are being attacked by the other team. As they are usually in the Mid Lane, Mages can easily travel to either of the lanes.
Support can also usually be found on the Mid Lane especially when the team composition does not have a Mage. Supports, such as Angela and Nana, can often be used on the Mid Lane.
For Tanks who are also considered as Support, such as Tigreal, Akai, Franco, I highly recommend to either follow the Marksman or the Jungler instead of staying in the Mid lane. This is because their skills can clear minion waves very slowly. They are better off assisting the core heroes for the mid to late game, instead.

Gold Lane
Gold lane is where the Marksman should go during the early game. This is because Marksmen need to farm "gold," or the money that is used to buy items in Mobile Legends. They are usually heavily reliant on items so they are fairly weak during the early game, and pretty scary during the late game (if they have enough items already).
However, there are times that other roles, such as Mages and Fighters, go to this lane instead. This is because there are times that a team composition does not have a Marksman.
The most common Mages that are usually used on Gold Lanes are Cyclops, Chang'e, Alice, and Esmeralda. Most of these heroes need a significant number of gold to buy their core items for the game. Most of them are late game heroes, similar to Marksmen.
EXP Lane or Offlane
Fighters usually go on EXP lane. It is not advisable for fighters to join the Marksman in the Gold Lane because the gold will be split between the two of them (unless the Fighter buys a Roaming item). As previously mentioned, Marksmen need to farm gold so that they can buy enough items for the late game.
However, instead of gold, heroes that will go to this lane will receive EXP. Meaning, their skills can upgrade faster than other heroes.
But there are times that other heroes are being used as an offlaner.
Chang'e and Zhask are usually used as an offlaner if there are two Mages in the team composition. This is because they can clear minion waves and take down turrets fast, thanks to their skills.
Junglers and Roamers
These are the roles of the heroes not mentioned above. It is important to note that heroes with these particular roles should not stay in a specific lane.
The goal of Junglers (also known as core) is to "farm" and rotate around the map. Junglers should be able to visit their teammates in the Gold, Mid and EXP Lanes throughout the game.
As for the roamers, they are usually with the Marksman or with the Jungler. Basically, Roamers (also called as Support) follow their teammates to assist them.
