It's not a drill. "Blade Runner 2099" is happening.
Amazon has greenlit the production of "Blade Runner 2099" for Prime Video, according to Engadget (via Variety).
Returning as an executive producer of the show is Ridley Scott, the director of the original 1982 "Blade Runner" film. Silka Luisa ("Halo" and "Shining Girls"), who has written the script, will also serve as executive producer.
Another executive producer is Michael Green, who is the co-writer of "Blade Runner 2049."
Amazon Teams Up with Alcon Entertainment and Scott Free Production
"Blade Runner 2099" is a follow up to the film sequel "Blade Runner 2049." The said sequel was directed by Denis Villeneuve, and was released in 2017.
The limited live action series "Blade Runner 2099" comes from Alcon Entertainment in association with Scott Free Productions, and Amazon Studios. It is the first Blade Runner live-action series.
"The original "Blade Runner," directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we're excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers," said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios, as cited by the Deadline.
Furthermore, Sanders said that Amazon is honored to continue the production of Blade Runner franchise.
Sanders said that with the team working on the limited lice action series, he is confident that ""Blade Runner 2099" will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors."
Meanwhile, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, co-founders of Alcon Entertainment, said that they are delighted to keep working with Amazon.
Furthermore, Kosove and Johnson said that they are "beyond excited to continue to extend the Blade Runner canon into a new realm."

'Blade Runner 2099' is Set 50 Years After the Last Sequel
The "Blade Runner" produced in 1982 starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard. The film was an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
Set in 2019, the story revolved on detective Deckard, who was a Blade Runner or someone who was tasked with hunting down replicates.
The replicates are strong androids made for harmful labor conditions. Deckard agreed to hunt down five rogue replicants on Earth.
Meanwhile, the "Blade Runner 2049," is the film's sequel that starred Ryan Gosling as a replicant blade runner. He uncovered a secret that threatens to destabilize society.
As the film title suggests, "Blade Runner 2099" is set 50 years after "Blade Runner 2049," but other than this fact, the premise of the live action series isn't yet clear yet.
Kosove and Johnson of Alcon Entertainment said that they know that they have a very high bar to meet with the upcoming live action series.
Working with Luisa, Amazon, and Scott Free Productions, Alcon Entertainment hopes to live up to that standard of the "Blade Runner" franchise.
Kosove and Johnson are also serving as executive producers of the series along with Ben Roberts and Cynthia Yorkin.
Scott Free Productions' David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett, are also executive producing the live action series.
Meanwhile, Tom Spezialy will also serve as one of the writers as well as an executive producer.
