Microsoft Releases Windows 11 22H2 KB5017389 Preview Update That Has 30 Fixes

Microsoft just released the Windows 11 22H2 KB5017389 cumulative update that comes with 30 fixes for previous update bugs as well as improvements. It is part of Microsoft's monthly "C" update that allows users to test upcoming fixes that will come with the October 2022 Patch on Tuesday, according to BleepingComputer.

Users will have to manually update their Windows OS, since they will not update automatically due to the preview updates not containing security fixes. It can easily avail the KB5017389  update by heading to Settings and clicking on Windows Update. Then, select Check for Updates.

Users can also download the KB5017389 update themselves from the Microsoft Update Catalog and manually install it. Once you have installed the update, the Windows 11 build number will switch to 22621.608.

What Are The Fixes?

The update will address the Microsoft Store's failure to load. It will also feature a fix for the issue that affects the fonts of three Chinese characters' width when users change their format to bold.

It also features a patch for when users open a PDF file successfully in a browser in IE mode, but browsing to succeeding IE mode sites in the same window fails. Other IE mode issues like tabs being forced to reload have been addressed as well.

The issue wherein Dual SIM functionality does not work if you select No Sim on your phone and make a call on your device, has been acknowledged and Microsoft has provided a fix. 

A patch has been issued by Microsoft so users won't have to reinstall apps that were not signed on by the Microsoft store when upgrading the OS. The Microsoft Store will no longer fail to update.

The problem with logging in to Microsoft Office 365 apps like Outlook, Word, Teams, and so on have been repaired. 

The Task Manager will no longer fail to work when users switch between light mode to dark mode, or when users change the color.

The issue with the duplication of the print queue where the original print queue stops working has also been issued a fix and will no longer be a problem for users. 

The settings for Roaming User Profiles will now be retained upon signing out and signing in again. 

Users can now dismiss the lock screen to view the credentials screen, which used to stop working because of an issue with LogonUI.exe.

The update addresses the issue that affects the SharedPC account manager wherein the OS deletes several accounts during cleanup.

What Are The Improvements? 

The new update adds more dynamic Widget content to the user's taskbar with notification badging. A banner will appear on top of the Widgets board when you open it, which will provide more information about the notification.

It also reduces the power that the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol uses on some devices when the user is in Sleep Mode.
