Hulu Hikes Prices for Ad-Supported, Ad-Free Monthly Plans

Enjoying the streaming fix on Hulu is now more expensive, with the streaming platform hiking its ad-supported monthly subscription rates to $7.99 from $6.99 or $79.99 annually) and its ad-free monthly plan to $14.99 from $12.99.

Prices for Hulu bundled plans with ESPN Plus and Disney Plus remain the same, but Hulu has a price hike planned for later this year. Once Disney Plus starts offering its ad-supported tier on December 8, the package with the ad-free Disney Plus, ad-upported Hulu, and ESPN Plus will cost $14.99 a month from $13.99 a month.

Meanwhile, the price for ad-free Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus will remain at $19.99 a month. Disney, Hulu's parent company, is also introducing  two new cheaper ad-supported plans: $9.99 a month for Disney Plus and Hulu; and $12.99 a month for Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus.

Subscribers will be paying a bit more to watch  Hulu's biggest hits, including "Only Murders in the Building," "The Handmaid's Tale," and "Dopesick," and other outstanding FX shows, such as "The Patient," "The Old Man," and "Under the Banner of Heaven."

Price Hike for Disney-Owned Streaming Properties

For subscribers of Hulu's live TV bundle, prices will still cost $74.99 for live TV, Hulu and ESPN Plus with ads, and Disney Plus without ads for existing subscribers. The other two plans, which offer live TV with ad-supported versions of Hulu, ESPN Plus, and Disney Plus (once it comes out), cost $69.99, while the live TV bundle with ad-free Hulu and ad-supported Disney Plus and ESPN Plus costs $75.99. Hulu is also introducing a premium ad-free live TV bundle that includes all three services with no ads in December, and this will cost $82.99.

As Hulu's prices jump, so will the costs of Disney+ and ESPN+, all owned by Disney. While Hulu's price jump starts in just a few weeks, Disney+ subscribers have a few months before their bills increase. Starting in December, ad-free Disney+ will jump $3 from $7.99 to $10.99. The streamer's ad-supported version will be available Dec. 8 for $7.99 per month.

Disney has increased subscription rates across all three of its streaming services in 2022, including Hulu, Disney Plus, and ESPN Plus. Hulu's srtreaming and live TV prices likewise hiked the same time in 2021.

New Hulu Prices Bring It Closer to HBO Max, Netflix

Hulu's new prices bring it closer in cost to its more costly streaming competitors, such as HBO Max and Netflix. HBO Max, one of the more expensive streamers, is priced  $9.99 per month with ads or $14.99 per month without ads. Netflix's basic plan begins at $9.99 per month and its most expensive premium option is priced $19.99 per month.

While nearly $20 may seem too expensive for "Stranger Things" and "Too Hot to Handle," for its loyal subcribers, Netflix is reportedly launching an ad-supported tier by November, which would make it easier on the subscribers' pockets.

ESPN+ increased its monthly subscription rate to $9.99 in August.
