Mid-December Release For Apple iOS 16.2, iOS 16.3 May Happen in February

Apple's next software updates will happen by the middle of December with the scheduled release of iOS 16.2, and another likely to happen in February next year.

The company had released this week the first betas of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and macOS Ventura 13.1 for its next round of software updates, 9TO5Mac reports.

Release Dates

After Apple completed the hardware releases for 2022, it has yet to release the next round of software updates before the year ends.

After the beta testing, Mark Gurman wrote in his Power On Newsletter the Cupertino tech company should release the iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 updates by mid-December.

Gurman, who writes for Bloomberg, also said the company is looking at the month of February, probably the early part, going to the first week of March for the release of iOs 16.3 alongside macOS 13.3.

24 OS Updates

The company released a suite of operating system updates for Apple iOS 16.1, macOS Ventura, and iPadOS 16.1, among others, on Oct. 24. It may take quite some time for iPhone users to have another wave of updates.

The release of the iOS 16.1 update enabled iPhone users to download the newest version of the OS.

But iOS 16.1 arrived and became available to iPhone owners after the beta had undergone multiple tests.

The multiple beta stages gave the developers the opportunity to spot several changes. Some of these changes include the redesign of the battery indicator and expansion availability for the battery icon to the older models of iPhone, which are smaller.

At present, the beta testing of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, tvOS 16.2, macOS Ventura 13.1, and watchOS 9.2 is still in the early stages. Customarily, the company takes several rounds of tests before releasing the updates.

Apple Insider said Gurman believes the timeframe for the release of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 updates should be around mid-December. The award-winning journalist, however, did not say the mid-December timeframe was from Apple.

Best Estimate

It could be Gurman's best estimate based on the number of betas being released by the company, Apple Insider reports.

Gurman may have his number based on the previous OS updates from Apple. The company, for instance, released macOS 12.2 on Jan. 26, and the 12.3 came in more than two months later.

Apple's iOS 15, on its part, together with iPadOS 15.2 was released on December 13, 2021, while the 15.3 came out on Jan. 26, and the 1.5.4 followed by Mar. 14.

Mac Releases

The scheduled release date of MacBook Pros, both the 14- and 16-inch, will be in the first quarter of 2023, particularly between February and March.

Gurman said Apple tied up the release of MacBook Pros to the release of macOS Ventura 13.3 and iOS 16.3 on the same dates.

From experience, the company will usually release together the same version-level of updates. It will also be an educated estimate that the release of iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS will also take place with Mac.
