ICYMI, Liam Hemsworth Replaces Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in 'The Witcher'

Ahead of the "The Witcher" season three release, Netflix already announced that the beloved show is returning for its fourth season. However, there are some changes with the casting.

We would be missing Henry Cavill as Geralth of Rivia in the fourth season as the actor exits the show. He is passing the role to Liam Hemsworth, who says he's "over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia," as per The Verge.

Liam Hemsworth is Elated to Play Geralt of Rivia

Hemsworth is taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia in "The Witcher" season four. Both actors, Cavill and Hemsworth, issued a statement in their social media accounts regarding the matter.

"My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4," Cavill posted on Instagram.

He further added that "the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth" will be taking over the lead role of the White Wolf. He is then passing the role to the actor with great respect. Likewise, he expressed his enthusiasm to see the actor take over the role.

Meanwhile, Hemsworth is elated to play Geralt of Rivia, saying "Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I'm honored that he's handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf's blades for the next chapter of his adventure." 

He said that he's been a fan of Cavill for years and he was inspired by what the actor brought to the characters

Hemsworth said that he is excited to step into "The Witcher" world despite having  some big boots to fill.

Since "The Witcher" debuted in December 2019, Cavill has played the role of the monster hunter Geralt.

He continued to play the role until the show's upcoming third season, which is set to arrive this summer 2023.

Henry Cavill Will Return to Play Superman

The news of Cavill leaving "The Witcher" comes after the announcement that the actor would be returning as Superman in the DCEU, according to IGN

While there is no confirmation if the two decisions are connected, it is highly possible that the actor's departure from the Netflix's show is because of his upcoming commitments to play Superman. 

The actor recently made a cameo appearance as the iconic Superman in the film "Black Adam" starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

During the time that Cavill played the role of Geralt, the actor displayed excellent performance proving that he is the perfect casting choice for the character. 

Over the years, "The Witcher" has become one of the flagship franchise of Netflix and Cavill's performance is one the contributory factors to the success of the series. 

While the third season is set to arrive in summer 2023, the streaming platform will be releasing a four-part prequel series starring Michelle Yeoh, "The Witcher: Blood Origin," on Christmas Day.

Similarly, with stellar credentials, Hemsworth is expected is bring justice to the role of Geralt. The actor is well known for playing Gale Hawthorne in "Hunger Games." He also starred in the movies "The Last Song," and "Independence Day: Resurgence." 

Hemsworth received an Emmy nomination for 2020's "Most Dangerous Game." He is also an outspoken fan of "The Witcher."
