Where to Buy a Playstation 5 for the Holidays

It's been difficult to get your hands on a Playstation 5 since its release. Other than limited shipments, others are quick to snatch them up the moment one becomes available. There are a couple of places to watch out for if you want one for yourself, according to The Verge

Places Where You Can Get Your PS5

  • Amazon ($399.99)

There is a way for you to purchase a PS5 without rushing to the store the moment you hear about it being in stock. You can simply open up your Amazon account and request an invitation to purchase one. That way, you will have an ample 72-hour window before you can purchase it.

You won't even need an Amazon prime subscription to do this. But, if you're thinking about hoarding reserve slots, know that each account is only entitled to one reserve. There's no way of knowing when one will be available for you, so to be on the safe side, you better order now.

  • GameStop ($399.99)

GameStop is also a good option for console shopping. They sell both online and in-person. You can opt for their physical stores since they announce restocks in their newsletter. However, their system serves whoever comes first, so if you're not on time, you might not make the cut.

You can subscribe to their PowerUp Rewards Pro Program, if you want to give yourself an edge. For $14.99 a year, you can have early access to certain console releases or restocks. Other than that, you'll also get discounts, monthly rewards, and an annual Game Informer subscription. Plus, you can buy the PS5 in bundles that include freebies like games and controllers.

  • Best Buy ($399.99)

If you want to buy one in physical stores, you should watch out for Discord servers and the Best Buy website for announcements. If you want to buy in the comfort of your own home, you might need to subscribe to Best Buy Totaltech. The service costs $199.99 a year, but it will give you exclusive access to restocks, discounts, and two-day shipping, among other things.

  • Sony ($399.99)

You can pre-register for an invitation from Sony directly. That way, you can buy directly from the manufacturer. All you have to do after registering is wait for Sony's email. You have to watch out for that link as it is time-sensitive, and it might expire if you don't open it soon.

You can still purchase one even if you haven't registered, but you'll up your chances if you do take the extra steps. Better safe than sorry.

Consider This Before Buying

You may have your heart set on buying a PS5, or maybe you want it as a gift for someone for the Holiday. However, it's still best to keep other factors in mind when making a decision. Reports have stated that Playstation 5 is set to release a version wherein it will feature a detachable disc drive.

According to Insider Gaming, the console might replace the A, B, and C chassis in production since its launch. Sources say that it is set to be launched in September 2023.
