Daniel Radcliffe Gets Banned On Twitter, Fake Rumor by Weird Al Yankovic Claims

Fans went into frenzy a as fake news circulated that Daniel Radcliffe's Twitter account got suspended amid Elon Musk's crackdown on celebs on the platform.

According to Gizmodo, Weird Al Yankovic started the rumors with a tweet expressing his outrage over the Harry Potter star's account ban, which alerted fans and news outlets.

Radcliffe Could Not Be Kicked Off Twitter Because He Is Not On It

Yankovic took to Twitter to prank a number of people by claiming that Radcliffe was banned on the platform for impersonating him.

The tweet suggested that the actor, who is playing Yankovic in a biopic, was kicked off the social network over promotional tweets that parodied him for the "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" movie.

Exclaim writes that while the tweet caused quite a ruckus on social media, the news could not have been true since Radcliffe is not on Twitter at all.

In Yankovic's tweet, which was published on Monday, he even tagged an account with Radcliffe's name, which turned out to be a suspended account created by a fan in 2011.

The rumors come after Twitter's new owner implemented a couple of suspensions following his strict decision to ban accounts that impersonate himself and others.

Despite the rumors proven to be untrue, some news outlets still reported Yankovic's tweet as true, which was immediately refuted by Radcliffe's publicist Scott Boute.

In 2019, the Harry Potter lead told the media himself that it was his conscious decision to stay away from all social media platforms to avoid getting into weird fights and headlines.

Gizmodo reports that they have reached out to Twitter to get a comment on the matter, but Musk is yet to provide a response since the company is busy with its mass layoffs.

A Number of Actors have Been Suspended By Twitter Already

After Musk purchased Twitter, he took the social media site to declare that comedy is now legal on the platform, KTLA says.

However, that does not seem to be the case, as the CEO has been on a suspension spree of people impersonating him on the social networking site.

"Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying 'parody' will be permanently suspended," he declares in a tweet on Monday.

He adds that while Twitter previously issued warnings before banning accounts, that will not be the case now that the company is rolling out widespread verifications.

Musk even states that this was the condition for subscribing to Twitter Blue, wherein any name change would cause a temporary verification loss.

The tweets came around following the suspension of Kathy Griffin's account after the comedian posed as Musk on the platform.

KTLA details that Griffin was not the only celebrity kicked off Twitter for parodying Musk as "Mad Men" actor Rich Sommer and Former NFL player Chris Kluwe were suspended as well.

Since Twitter's ownership was turned over to the billionaire, many celebrities have walked away from the social media site, including Whoopi Golberg, Toni Braxton, Helen Hunt, and Sara Bareilles.
