Apple's Airtag Item Tracker Recieves New Firmware Update

Apple has released a new firmware update for its AirTag item tracker. The company released the 2.0.24 version, which features the build number 2A24e, as mentioned in 9To5Mac. However, it is still unclear what the update holds, as Apple has not released an official statement about the new firmware.

What to Know About the Previous Update

The update before the 2.0.24 version was 1.0.301, with the build number 1A301. Apple released it back on April 28th and posted through their blog what the updates meant. It's a very short list with just one update, noting that Apple has tuned the unwanted tracking sound, so users can locate an unknown AirTag more easily.

This could just mean that the AirTag is already solid as it is, and it already functions well without further updates. They did, however, mention in the blog that it requires iOS 14.5 or later. If you want to update your AirTag, it should be within the Bluetooth range of your iPhone, as the updates are delivered periodically.

To check what version your firmware is, open Find My app, and tap on the Items tab. Select the AirTag in the list of items that are present, and tap the name of your AirTag. After doing so, you'll be able to see the serial number and the firmware version.

What Are AirTags?

If you haven't heard about this particular product from Apple, it's a tag that's designed to be attached to your personal belongings. With the item, you'll be able to track objects that you often misplace like your wallet, keys, or other accessories. All you need is a Bluetooth connection and the Find My app. You may purchase it for $29, or $99 for a bundle of four. It's also available on Amazon and Best Buy.

It's not that big, with measurements of 1.26 inches in diameter, and 0.31 inches in height. It's also very light, with a weight of just 11 grams. You can even engrave it with your initials, granted that it's only four letters or less. AirTag will display the location of the item attached to it on a map if you do try to locate it.

Apple put in a U1 chip in the AirTags so it can display precise locations. However, it needs to be within proximity to display locations in real-time. If not, it will show the last location when it was still in range. If the AirTag is already too close to you to be displayed on the map, and you still can't find it, it has a speaker that emits a sound. You can simply play the sound via the Find My app or ask Siri to do it for you.

If you're worried about its battery life, the AirTag has a CR2032 battery that will last up to a year. Make sure to keep spare batteries around, since you can't really charge it. It was designed to have replaceable batteries. Its maximum range is about 100 meters, according to MacRumors, and it is water-resistant.
