FTX’s CEO Gets Laughed at by AOC for Low LoL Rank

FTX's CEO just got owned for one of the unlikeliest reasons: his League of Legends rank.

New York Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, more popularly known by her initials AOC, recently roasted FTX's CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), for his low League of Legends rank after featuring it in his profile.

You may remember that SBF voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 for FTX and has resigned as its CEO as a result of the company's bankruptcy.

AOC vs. SBF LoL Rank Details

The ownage began when a Financial Times report revealed that SBF was last ranked as Bronze III in LoL's ranking system, which consists of nine ranks that denote how skilled a player is.

According to the League of Legends Wiki, these ranks, from lowest to highest, are iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, master, grandmaster, and challenger. Early Game's report mentioned that the challenger rank represents the top 300 or 200 players of each region.

As a result, despite SBF's skill in playing ranked LoL matches, he is among the bottom rankers of the game.

You may remember a profile of SBF when he was still CEO of FTX that mentioned he was playing LoL even during a video conference via Zoom, with Michelle Bailhe, a Sequoia partner, remaking that they were impressed with the feat, per Business Insider.

This profile was unfortunately removed due to the company's bankruptcy, but it can still be viewed with the Wayback Machine. This fact was not lost on many Twitter users, with a user going by the name tae kim noting that SBF wasn't even good at playing LoL.

The same can also be said about AOC, who also saw tae kim's tweet regarding SBF's LoL rank. According to the congressperson's tweet, AOC asked how venture capitalists were impressed by a LoL player with a Bronze III rank.

Another Twitter user going by the name of Dan Nguyen then pointed out that AOC had a Silver III rank in LoL back on Jul. 13, 2020 - an achievement which she tweeted, calling it a quarantine achievement. Although SBF and AOC's current ranks are unknown, they had their respective ranks at one point.

As a result, AOC was once better than SBF in playing ranked LoL matches.

However, AOC isn't quite ready to take pride in her LoL career, with her responding "Understandable" when one Twitter user tweeted that she used to respect her before, but her playing LoL was too far for her.

A Quick Summary of FTX's Fate

SBF voluntarily filed for FTX's bankruptcy on Nov. 11 after customers fled the crypto exchange platform over fears that it doesn't have enough capital to sustain itself, per VOA.

Although there has been attempt from Binance to save the company from its impending bankruptcy at the time, its CEO, Changpeng Zhao, realized that the company's issues were beyond their control and ability to help.

FTX's collapse caused quite a stir within politicians and regulators, with many of them calling for stricter oversight and regulation of the cryptomarket, per Protocol.
