5 Horror Games Coming Out in 2023 That Everyone is Excited About

2023 is a year many gamers will be excited for, as many of the gaming industry's beloved franchises will have new entries sometime in that year.

Halloween may be over, but the scares great horror games can give gamers is timeless and not so easily forgotten, especially with the games in this list.

Here are some of the horror games we can't wait to play when they get released in 2023.

Dead Space Remake

The upcoming Dead Space remake is one of the survival horror games the gaming community eagerly awaits after nine years of waiting. It adds a handful of features, such as the Adrenaline, Limbic System Response, Intelligent Dialog, Vitals, and Exertions system to improve the game's atmosphere further.

Philippe Ducharme, the game's Senior Producer, said that the game's story is also revised to better fit the world that the sequels and comic books created.

It also brings back many familiar faces, with Isaac Clarke returning as the game's main character. However, even Isaac's appearance gets an improvement: he is now fully voiced by his original voice actor, Gunner Wright, who voiced Issac in Dead Space 2.

The original game has Isaac as a silent protagonist, which doesn't feel right in the horrifying world of Dead Space.

The game is scheduled for release on Jan. 27, 2023, for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, per Games Radar. It can now be pre-ordered if you so wish.

Ill

Ill is a game that seems to take Dead Space's formula and put it into modern times. According to Games Radar, the creatures players are going up against look human on the outside, but they are taken over by parasitic forms that look like it was related to the alien lifeform from John Carpenter's 1982 film "The Thing."

These mockeries of humanity can transform and rearrange their body parts into more horrific forms that will force players to reassess their strategies on the fly, with dismemberment rather than riddling them with bullets being the ticket to victory.

Not much is known about the game's story, but it does look like aliens and a lot of shooting are involved. Gameplay-wise, ill comes with a first-person camera similar to Resident Evil Biohazard and Village, allowing players to relish the blood, gore, and dismemberments the game provides up-close.

Ill doesn't have a definite release date, with the trailer showing that the game will come out sometime in 2022. With the year ending soon, though, it is likely that it will hit store shelves sometime in 2023.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

The Resident Evil franchise is one of gaming's most beloved franchises for a good reason: it popularized and defined the survival horror genre. As such, it is no surprise that the remake of one of the most successful entries in the franchise is being waited on with bated breath.

Resident Evil 4 Remake re-imagines the original 2005 game with a modern take, with updated graphics, improved AI, and new additions, such as the ability to block Dr. Salvador's chainsaw with the same knife he received from Marvin in the remake of Resident Evil 2.

Many of the original 2005 game's mechanics are present in the game, such as performing melee attacks on stunned enemies. However, the remake is expected to have the same combat features as the previous two remakes, meaning that moving around while aiming will still be the norm.

Resident Evil 4 remake is expected to be released on March 24, 2023, per Inverse.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

After a decade of waiting and a large helping of disappointment after Silent Hills' cancelation, Silent Hill fans could finally get a proper game in the form of Silent Hil 2's remake, bringing the most popular game the franchise has to the 2020s.

Although the game has long been leaked, they only added more hype to its confirmation, which had gamers rejoice.

Leading the charge for Silent Hill's return to form is Bloober team, the same developer behind The Medium, Blair Witch, and the Layers of Fear series. The video game developer is in charge of developing the remake, which promises to preserve the atmosphere the original game had while modernizing many of the game's gameplay aspects, per Mateusz Lenart, Creative Director & Lead Designer at Bloober Team.

The game's facial animations, audio, lighting, and even music and sound design are being improved, meaning that gamers who already played the original are in for quite a surprise on their next visit to Silent Hill.

Silent Hill 2 will be released at some point in 2023, according to Comicbook Gaming.

Slitterhead

Not much is known about Slitterhead, but if its trailer is anything to go by, the game is not your average horror game.

Keiichiro Toyama, the video game director famous for his creation and direction of Silent Hill, is confirmed to be directing Slitterhead, an action-oriented adventure horror game that seems to be a more realistic version of Among Us.

The game has players go up against shapeshifting monsters akin to Dead Space's necromorphs, but they can disguise themselves as everyday civilians.

As with the game's details, not much is known about the game's release date, but Games Radar reports it could be out sometime in 2023 for PC.
