Netflix Previews 'That '70s Show' Sequel Series In A 'That '90s Show' Teaser Trailer

The "That '70s Show" gang is back hanging out down the street somewhere in Point Place, Missouri on the sequel series that will take place decades later on "That '90s Show."

Netflix has finally released a teaser trailer for the much-awaited period teen sitcom that follows the stories of the original prequel characters.

"That 90's Show" Is Scheduled For Release On January 2023

The new generation of lovable misfits is back to the Formans' basement for the "That '70s Show" spinoff this new year as "That '90s Show" debuts on Netflix on January 19.

The streaming platform's teaser for the sequel shows a bunch of new characters and series favorites Red and Kitty Forman, who are played by Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp respectively.

The sequel takes place 20 years after the original series happened, now revolving around the story of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti's teenage daughter, Leia.

Leia will spend the summer vacation in her grandparents' basement as she tries to make friends with kids her age, Gamespot writes.

With this, she will meet Gwen and her brother Nate, who live next door, Nikki, Ozzie, and Jay, and together they form a group reminiscent of the original crew.

Entertainment News Online details that the new batch of teens is played by the likes of Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Reyn Doi, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Mace Coronel, and Sam Morelos.

However, what fans are anticipating the most are the returns of original series stars Wilmer Valederama, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Topher Grace, and Laura Prepon who are set to make appearances.

Meanwhile, one of the members of the gang, Danny Masterson, will not be involved in the sequel since he has a standing trial on three counts of rape, which the actor denied, The Hollywood Reporter says.

Also returning to the show are its original creators Bonnie and Terry Turner, who will be working with their daughter Lindsey Turner and "That '90s Show" showrunner Gregg Mettler.

The original series "That '70s Show" had its iconic run from 1998 to the early 2000s with 200 episodes across eight seasons on Fox, Gamespot reports.

Meanwhile, the pilot season of the sequel series will run for only 10 episodes, but fans are hoping that it will be as successful as its predecessor.

The 'That '90s Show" Almost Did Not Happen

Along with the trailer and the release date of the "That '90s Show," its producers also gave a breakdown of what happened behind the scenes during the show's creation.

According to the Turners, they initially turned down the idea of rebooting the series for a sequel when Netflix reached out to them with the project.

However, after some thoughtful considerations, the Turners finally considered the project only if they came up with an idea that would work today, Variety notes.

They said that they initially thought that the show should revolve around the story of an unknown grandchild showing up to the Formans', but Netflix thought that it was not the right one to go for.

With this, they came up with the show's current storyline where Eric and Donna's child pays a visit to her grandparents during the summertime.
