Waze App Is Now Accessible on Select Cars With Google Built-In — Which Cars Can Do So?

Google built-in drivers now have another alternative GPS driving app to use.

Google recently revealed that Waze is launching a new, dedicated app on select cars with Google built-in, allowing the drivers of those vehicles to enjoy all the features Waze has to offer.

Google did not disclose when it will expand the coverage of the new, dedicated Waze app to other Google built-in cars.

Waze Google Built-In App Details

Google mentioned in its announcement that Waze's app would be available with select Renault vehicles, namely the Austral hybrid and Megane E-Tech electric vehicles, with Google built-in, allowing them to use a "bigger, bolder navigation display" at eye level without using their phone.

The company added that Waze's dedicated app is part of its efforts to influence the future of transportation, providing Google built-in drivers with navigation, routing, and alerts featured right in the car's infotainment system.

This app takes away the need for drivers to purchase a phone dock and a USB cable to keep their devices in place and charging while driving.

Aron Di Castro, Director of Waze's marketing and Partnerships department, said that having Waze's real-time navigation, routing, and alerts built into the infotainment displays of Renault's vehicles will make for "a simplified and seamless driving experience." He also added he is looking forward to bringing an excellent driving experience to Google built-in drivers across the globe.

He also said that it's important that Waze brings the best driving experiences to its users since more and more of them engage with it on in-car platforms as technological advancements in car technology improve over time.

Meanwhile, Jerome Seror, Renault's Director of Digital Customers, is of the same mind as Di Castro. He said that the people at Renault know that many Waze users will like the new feature when they drive the few vehicles that will have the dedicated app as part of its continued commitment to offer an "intuitive, immersive, and connected driving experience."

He added that Renault is the first car manufacturer to offer Waze's dedicated app directly on the vehicle's multimedia screen without activating a smartphone.

Waze Google Built-In Map Future Plans

Speaking of the app's expansion, Waze's Di Castro mentioned that the company will the dedicated app to more users worldwide by 2023, though he didn't say which cars will get the dedicated app.

Unfortunately, the models where Waze is available to download are only available in Europe.

9to5Google's report, however, shines more light on the topic. According to the publication's report, owners of the Polestar 2, Volvo, and any other Android Automotive vehicle, should be able to download it from the Google Play Store version for Google built-in vehicles.

How To Access Waze's Google Built-In App

Google built-in drivers capable of downloading Waze's dedicated app can do so by directly downloading it from the Google Play Store in their vehicle or the My Renault mobile app.

After which, they can create a new account for navigation or use an existing one for a simpler setup.
