The 7 Most Toxic Gaming Communities You Should Avoid

It's convenient for others to show their ugly side, especially when they are shielded by anonymity and the fact that they're on the other side of a screen. This is rampant in social media platforms, and the gaming community is no exception. There are others who become the receiving end of racism, homophobia, sexism, and more. Here are a couple of communities you should avoid.

1. League of Legends

When you ask an avid gamer what the most toxic gaming community is, League of Legends is probably at the top of their heads. It has grown more and more toxic over the years. Considering that League of Legends is actually a pretty fun game and it's a shame that it came to that. Riot Games is consistently trying to resolve these issues, as mentioned in Ranker.

2. Call of Duty

The fanbase is partly to blame. Since it's played with Xbox Live, some of the players will actually be kids. There is a certain limit to maturity when it comes to younger gamers, you have to admit. That leads to a 12-year-old shouting at the top of his lungs at the mic, accusing you of cheating when you're good, and then trash-talking when you play badly.

3. Fortnite

Speaking of children, one of the many games that have caught their attention is Fortnite. According to DoteSports, the young fanbase is due to its low cost and cartoonish graphics. Either way, it can get annoying when some kid shouts derogatory words at you when you're just trying to have fun.

4. Dota 2

If you've played Dota 2, then you know there's no such thing as chill gaming. Other players can sometimes be reliant on their teams since it is a 5v5 game, after all. So, when someone makes a mistake, some hothead would probably voice their anger out through chat or voice chat. They would even piss you off by going AFK or making your team lose on purpose.

5. Minecraft

Arguably, it's a kid's game. Adults play it too, of course. I still play it from time to time, but you can't deny that its target market is children. We've already established that some young players need a time-out from mommy. With Minecraft, it could get much worse since servers are independent of the game's developers, so there are no restrictions in place.

6. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

One of the problems with old games is that there are many veteran players, and those players sometimes smurf in order to be superior against the rest. If you're new, you might encounter someone with godly skills, even if they're just the same level as you, and that will suck. Of course, even if they're aware that they're in a lower tier, they'll get mad at newbies anyway. How fun.

7. Valorant

Valorant takes the cake, according to a survey from NME. Around 79% of adults said that they have already been insulted while in-game, which slimly exceeds Dota 2's 78%. Mostly you'd get the "nt" (nice try), but then you'll encounter players who get angry because you're not good enough for them. Sometimes, they'll even throw tantrums by sabotaging the game, ruining the experience for everyone.
