There's an entire generation that grew up with movies about princesses needing their prince to find happiness. It's a nice change of pace to see more movies wherein the focal point is the strength of the female lead and not their pursuit of a companion. Here are a few you should check out.
1. 'Moana'
You'll find the titular character possessing characteristics so strong that crying about not being able to marry a man you just met becomes incredibly ridiculous. Moana sails away from her home in an attempt to save it, as mentioned in Vogue.
She had so much conviction that she managed to convince Maui, a demigod, to do the right thing and return the heart to Te Fiti (which Maui stole). The movie shows how a woman could take on extreme responsibilities on her own.
2. 'Hidden Figures'
The movie follows the lives of three women placed in a workplace where they were belittled. It's important to note that the events happened in NASA back in 1961, which was a time when racial segregation and sexism were still rampant.
Despite that, they did their part and helped NASA send a man to the moon. Oppression is something that no one should have to endure, but they did the task anyway because they could, and they were good at it.
3. 'Brave'
Centuries before women started becoming men's equals, all they could do more or less was marry, bear children, and maintain their homes. Merida tries to break tradition by refusing the role that was given to her.
She refused marriage and decided to fight for her own hand. Yes, she made a mistake and turned her mother into a bear, but she displayed courage as she tried to fix her mistake and become more mature in the process.
4. 'The Help'
The movie once again takes place in the 1960s, when women couldn't even attend Ivy League schools or get their own credit cards. A writer interviewed the black women in her hometown who were caretakers of children for white families.

5. 'Mulan'
As far as heroism and feminism go, Mulan is a prime example of both. In a culture where men were tasked to protect their families from any hardship, Mulan takes her father's place seeing as he was in no condition to fight in a war.
She excelled in training against men who were used to such exercises. Instead of keeping her honor by finding a suitable husband, she saved China instead, using both combat and wits.
6. 'The Devil Wears Prada'
The movie shows that women can grow outside of the mold that was created for them. They can choose a path for themselves, whether it's a career-driven pursuit or wanting to stay at home and care for their family.
