Google May be Working on a Tracker Tag Called 'Grogu' Which Could Launch This 2023

Google is reportedly working on a tracking tag to help users track items they have misplaced. You're probably already familiar with that device since other companies already make them like Samsung, Apple, and Tile.

Google Grogu

The tracking tag is said to be named "Grogu" according to Kuba Wojciechowski, which is reportedly being developed by the Nest team at Google. The trackers can also be called "groguaudio" or "GR10."

It's still pretty early to compare Google's tracker to the other big tech companies that also make them. There's barely any detail that tells us how the tag might turn out. Although, there are some details that were shared through XDA.

For one, reports say that the tag will come in various colors, as well as a built-in speaker. It will also support Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth Low Energy, which will be essential to track the items more accurately.

Mishaal Rahman from Esper's also mentioned that the tracker tag is listed as a device in the Fast Pair console, which means that it can pair with other devices quickly without having to navigate through Settings.

There are still no dates for when the item would be announced or launched, but Wojciechowski suggested that Google might shed some light on the device at Google's I/O Developer Conference this year. It could also be released in Google's fall hardware event.

Tags You Can Look Into in the Meantime

If you need a tag right now and can't wait for Google's release, you can look into other tags that are available in the market. There are plenty of local tags out there and there are also those that are manufactured by big tech companies. Here are some suggestions.

Apple AirTags

The Apple AirTags can be quite pricey, but they also do their job well. Like Grogu, it has a built-in speaker. Tracking with a map has its limitations. Luckily, the AirTag has features that can help by indicating how far the object is by feet. It also emits a sound with the press of a button.

Its Ultra-Wideband technology helps with its Precision Finding. Its battery can last to up to a year, and the device itself is water-resistant. All it takes is a one-tap setup for you to connect the device with the Find My app.

Galaxy SmartTag

Another option is the Galaxy SmartTag by Samsung. The tag also comes with a built-in speaker that emits a sound by tapping the ring button on your phone. It can also control IoT devices with just one click, so you can control devices from afar.

When you have a Galaxy phone, you can locate your tag even when it's out of range or offline. Using Galaxy Find Network, the tag will use scanned data to find it for you privately. You can also see where it has been so you can track its last location. It comes in white and black.
