Hulu Drops 'Solar Opposites,' 'Koala Man' Co-Creator Justin Roiland Due to Domestic Violence Charges

Justin Roiland, a co-creator of "Rick and Morty" and a voice actor, has lost another job in light of his current criminal domestic abuse charges.

Following the split with Adult Swim, he was also fired from Hulu, the platform for the Roiland's projects "Solar Opposites" and "Koala Man," Gizmodo reports.

Companies Have Severed Ties With Roiland Only Hours Apart From Each Other

The creator of Rick and Morty was cut off from Adult Swim less than 24 hours after that, and now, Hulu has also decided to cut connections with the suspected domestic abuser as well.

"We have ended our association with Justin Roiland," a statement from 20th Television Animation and Hulu Originals claims.

The trade also mentions that "Solar Opposites" and "Koala Man" are anticipated to continue without Roiland's involvement, just like Adult Swim's "Rick and Morty" did.

With that, Roiland, who voices both of the show's central characters, will be replaced by new actors in Adult Swim's upcoming season of "Rick and Morty."

The same probably applies to his Hulu series, most notably "Solar Opposites," in which he also voices the lead role, The Hollywood Reporter writes.

The first season of Roiland and Mike McMahan's animated science fiction comedy "Solar Opposites" was made available on Hulu in 2020.

It can be remembered that the season 4 of the show was scheduled to premiere in 2023 before the Roiland case, and season 5 had already been ordered as well.

On January 9, Hulu also made available the Australian American animated comedy "Koala Man," where Roiland served as the show's executive producer and provided a guest character's voice in the first season.

It is also important to note that Roiland's animation firm, Justin Roiland's Solo Vanity Card Productions, is responsible for the production of "Koala Man," "Solar Opposites," and "Rick and Morty."

Roiland also co-founded the video game firm Squanch Games, which revealed on January 24 that he had left the organization as of January 16.

The Allegations Against Roiland Were Exposed Last Week

The Orange County District Attorney's office has charged Roiland with one felony case of domestic abuse with bodily injury and one felony offense of false detention by threat, violence, fraud, or deceit.

According to Variety, a complaint filed in May 2020 claims that the event involved Jane Doe who was dating Roiled at the time the incident happened in January 2020.

In October 2020, he filed a not guilty plea to the accusations, and the case was kept under wraps until a hearing on January 12.

His pre-trial hearing was held in court in January, but the trial date has not yet been scheduled, and Roiland is reportedly due for another hearing on April 27.

The defense of Roiland has claimed that his client is innocent, and they have every confidence that the case would be dropped, Deadline writes.

The "Rick and Morty" creator's attorney is confident that this will happen after the district attorney's office has finished its meticulous examination of the material.
