Microsoft’s Bing Will Use a More Powerful Language Model than OpenAI’s ChatGPT

A lot of attention has been going to Microsoft's announcement of integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT with Bing. This gives the search engine better ways to serve its users by providing better search results. Now, it appears that Microsoft will release a better language model more suited for search.

Prometheus Model

Microsoft is introducing a new proprietary technology called the Prometheus model. It will help the search engine come up with more relevant search results, as well as make Bing safer. Microsoft claims that it will also allow the company to update search results faster.

Users can now use the chat function and an expanded search bar wherein users can type in up to a thousand characters, as mentioned by Engadget. Even if Bing doesn't have a precise answer, it will redirect the user to useful information that could.

As for the chat feature, people can use OpenAI's generative function. For instance, when a user asks Bing to plan a five-day trip, they can create an itinerary with links for accommodation, flights, and whatever activity they can do at the destination.

Users can now visit the search engine to try it out, and maybe even sign up for the company's waitlist. Soon, Microsoft will also add a button where users can share feedback on Bing's functionality in order for the company to make it better.

AI-Powered Bing

According to Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, AI will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the biggest one which is search. The AI-powered search engine will help people get more from search and the web.

The new and improved search engine will provide more relevant results for simple things like the weather or sports scores. There will also be a sidebar that will show more comprehensive results should you choose to know more about what you search for.

Unlike before, you won't have to scan through search results to get a coherent answer. Bing will review results found on the web and find the summarized answer for you. If you're not satisfied with the gist of it, you can still view other results in the sidebar.

The new AI experience will not be limited to definitive answers. Bing can generate content for you as well. It can plan vacations, help you prepare for a job interview, and even create a trivia quiz if you request it. It'll cite its sources so you'll know where the results came from.

Microsoft and OpenAI are also ahead of threats like harmful content. Both are already implementing safeguards to defend against such content on the web. Their teams are also working against misinformation and disinformation, and content blocking.

The same also goes for data safety and the prevention of promoting harmful or discriminatory content in line with Microsoft's AI principles. These measures are implemented to make sure that the AI systems are "responsible by design." The preview is set to be released to million in the coming weeks.
