Google Investigates Gmail Outlook Syncing Issues, Tries To Fix Bug

On the company's status page, Google states that it is looking into a problem it is encountering syncing with Microsoft's servers.

According to The Verge, since about 12:00 ET, the company has been trying to determine what is wrong and has spoken with Microsoft about the issue.

Google Is Quick To Respond To Customer Reports

Google is looking into a service failure that affects Gmail users globally and interferes with synchronizing emails with Microsoft servers using Internet Message Access Protocol  (IMAP).

Users of Gmail claim to not be receiving emails on the affected devices and to be experiencing difficulties syncing their Hotmail accounts.

Those who are affected claim to have encountered errors saying "There was a problem when syncing this folder. Please try again later."

Further reports indicate that these persistent sync problems only affect the Gmail mobile app, with desktop versions functioning as normal.

The company has already verified the reports, and in an incident report posted earlier today on the Google Workspace Status Dashboard, it states that it began looking into the problem at 5:10 PM UTC.

"IMAP syncs with Microsoft servers experiencing failures that are causing Gmail sync issues," Google says, according to Bleeping Computer

However, according to Google, the problem is presently limited to consumers synchronizing their email from Microsoft servers.

It can be remembered that users using the Gmail application on any platform cannot sync new messages while accessing Outlook or Hotmail email accounts.

The engineering team at Google is still investigating what is causing this continuous outage, and it will provide further information as soon as it is available.

Following an initial investigation done by the tech giant, Google claims that there are no Gmail authentication issues to blame for the sync troubles.

"The investigation so far from our engineering has not uncovered any issues with Gmail application authentication and we are continuing to investigate further for the root cause," the company updates.

The Problem Is A Common Occurence

Since its debut in 2004, Google's free Gmail service has grown to rank among the most widely used and dependable email providers globally.

As of 2021, data has reported and revealed that it has more than 1.8 billion active users that depend on its services.

It has a number of features, including automatic email categorization, spam protection, and connection with other Google services like Google Drive and Google Calendar.

Because of this, Google has quickly worked with Microsoft to address the issue to avoid further effects of the problem to affect users.

Those who are currently having this problem can still access their Hotmail or Outlook emails using the official mobile applications for each service as well as using other email clients in addition to Gmail.

Even though it might not be the most practical answer, it is a temporary workaround that can help resolve the problem until a repair is offered, Chrome Unboxed notes.

It is crucial to remember that problems like these do occur occasionally, and even the most popular applications can have errors and malfunctions, particularly when it comes to server-side technicality.

To ensure that users can access their emails without any trouble, it is comforting to know that Google is aggressively eradicating this problem.
